Conservatives and the GOP are not synonymous; the terms should not be used interchangeably.
The GOP is losing conservatives on it's own, not b/c of some Dixie bogeyman. Amazing folks on FR support a 33%+ increase in the FedGov and open borders. Limited government and security are conservative cornerstones....perhaps the GOP forgot.

What does limited government have to do with the Confederate States of America? You would do well to read up on the abuses of King Davis and his slaveocracy regime of Richmond.
The problem is that for 150 years too many southerners have had no problem with an iron yoke on their neck as long as it says "made in the South".
