Did anyone see when c-span simulcast the Batchelor and Alexander Show for the whole 3 hours plus all the breaks where they talked "off air"? Memorable. I hope JB comes back louder and stronger.

Yes, I saw part of that C-SPAN show. It sure looked to me that John Batchelor was doing most of the in-studio work, and Paul Alexander was doing a lot of slacking off... LOL!

FYI from WMAL:
Greetings from the programming guy!

I’d like to share some great news, along with special THANKS for your patience. 630 WMAL will soon be boosting its broadcast power to 10,000 watts, up from the current 5,000. As we prepare for that move, we must take the radio station off the air periodically, late at night, for transmitter work. There’s a lot of testing, adjusting, and re-adjusting that we must do to ensure that our new, more powerful signal will be in compliance with Federal Communications Commission regulations. We’re working as fast as we can and are most grateful for your patience. We can’t wait to be back in the business of delivering Coast To Coast AM live, every night, and broadcasting your favorite daytime shows at full power.

Now some more good news! Beginning on Monday, September 4th, 630 WMAL will begin airing Coast To Coast AM – Early Edition every weeknight between 10pm and 1am. What Is Early Edition? It’s 3 full hours of Coast To Coast AM re-broadcast from the previous night, for those of you who have to get up early and head out to work. We’ll still broadcast Coast To Coast AM live between 1am and 5am, but we’re adding a nightly bonus.

Glad to share the good news, and again, thank you for your patience as we work to crank that signal up to 10,000 watts.

Thanks for listening to 630 WMAL.

Best regards,

Paul Duckworth
Operations Director
News Talk 630 WMAL

That's funny to me: It's a bonus! We're airing a rerun!

I guess this is a stopgap for them. If they really are going off the air periodically, then they probably don't mind putting in a temporary fix. I really hope they get Steve, but I don't know if he wants overnights again.

Some madman on speed took over the 8-10 time slot last evening.

Whew, just not listenable.

And when I went to the WABC website I saw that they are giving Gary Bauer and some other guy the time slot that Andrew Wilkow used to have on Sunday mornings.

Guess it's going to be goodbye WABC.

Wilkow is engaged to the daughter of his talk radio mentor, Phil Boyce, a fact that was mentioned in the closing minutes of his last WABC broadcast.

I heard Andrew mention that he was engaged to Boyce's daughter. Boyce is universally NOT loved by his employees. Let's hope the daughter doesn't have that nasty arrogant attitude that her daddy has.

Have you ever heard his shows on the air. He has an occasional hour of talking to the program director?

Further, I have heard some of the on air hosts making comments about Phil.

I have heard Tongue N' Cheek from some host who would say things to get the listener ears perk up!

I know when he let go of Samuels and Baye he was straight forward about it!

I find that refreshing!

SH is for good for beginners to politics, he is very approachable and the young people like him.

Exactly. My son would get in the car after school at 3PM when he was in third grade and hear Sean. It wasn't long before he say, "Hey, I want to hear that." when I changed the station.

This summer I took advantage of the time they were out of school to have Rush on while the kids are in the car. They listen and learn.

Every Tuesday we take a long trip and come home at night. JB's voice really bothers my 13 year old son who can't believe JB isn't gay. I just explain he's got that snooty NYC air in his voice, but he's not gay.

JB recently had been comparing President Bush to LBJ and I began to tune out more and more.

No doubt you'll find Gary Bauer 'refreshing' too.

Paul Alexander wasn't "slacking off." He was writing books and plays and had deadlines that infringed on his doing the show. I saw his play "Edge" off-Broadway, it was brilliant.

I think the show was better with both of them. As I recall, in the beginning they billed themselves as:
one democrat, one republican...
one from the south, one from New England...
one gay, one hetero...
But two friends.

They were both pretty moderate as far as their political views, and sometimes it was hard to tell who claimed to be R and who claimed to be D. I found them to have a tempering effect on each other, and I didn't listen as often after Paul left.

IMO, The John Batchelor Show was the greatest show in the history of broadcast radio. Intelligent, eclectic, informative. I sent John an email in March full of accolades, and telling him to "Please send this email to your boss, advertisers, FCC, or whomever is in charge of the fate of your show. I don't know what I'd do without it." Little did I know what would be transpiring 5 months later. I'm in shock.

Batchelor's show was a nice oasis where idiotic callers didn't rule the day. When Katrina VandenEVIL made me want to spit nails, then he'd have Jed Babbin and I would cheer!
