PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush is spending most of the weekend in the White House while his wife attended the commissioning ceremony today in Houston, Texas, for the US Navy's newest attack submarine, the USS Texas. Mrs. Bush had agreed to be the boat's sponsor while she was still the First Lady of Texas.
As we in the U.S. prepare to observe the 5th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia, British Prime Minister Tony Blair is visiting the Middle East. The White House issued a brief written statement by President Bush about Mr. Blair's visit. Here is the transcript:
President's Statement on Prime Minister Blair Visit to Lebanon, Israel, and Palestinian TerritoriesI am pleased that Prime Minister Blair will be visiting Lebanon, Israel, and the Palestinian territories. The deployment of increasing numbers of international forces in an enhanced United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL), which enabled the lifting of the air and sea blockade of Lebanon, makes this a timely visit. The Prime Minister will be discussing ways to facilitate the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1701, including enforcing the ban on unauthorized arms shipments to Hezbollah from Iran and Syria. I understand the Prime Minister will also be exploring ways to advance the dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians and the two state solution - a democratic Israel and democratic Palestine living side by side in peace and security. I wish him well in his efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
THE WEEK AHEAD: The President and First Lady depart Sunday afternoon for New York where they will commemorate the 5th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on our nation. There will be a wreath-laying at Ground Zero on Sunday evening, and a service of prayer and remembrance at St. Paul's Chapel in New York.
_ Monday, September 11, 2006, President Bush will breakfast with New York City first responders at a firehouse. He will participate in a moment of silence and a ceremony with New York City first responders in commemoration of September 11, 2001. He then travels to Shanksville, Pennsylvania, for a wreath-laying ceremony at the site of the crash of Flight 93. Finally, the President returns to Washington where he will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony for the 5th anniversary at the Pentagon attack. There are no prepared remarks for any of these events. However, the President will be speaking to the nation from the Oval Office at 9:00 p.m. eastern time. Press Secretary Tony Snow said this is not a political speech. It will be a reflection of what September 11th has meant to the President, and to the country; the realities that it has brought to all of our attention and how we can move forward together to try to win the war on terror._ Tuesday, after the emotional anniversary of 9/11/01, there are no public events scheduled. This, of course, could change as events warrant.
_ Wednesday there will be a Republican National Committee reception at Evermay, in Washington, D.C.
_ Thursday, GWB will meet with President Roh of South Korea, in the Oval Office. There will be a social dinner that evening in honor of the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz, followed by entertainment in the East Room.
_ Friday, no public events are scheduled.
EXTENDED SCHEDULE:
_ Sept. 18: Vice President Cheney is scheduled to visit Luzerne County, PA, for a fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood._ Sept. 19: President Bush delivers an address to the United Nations General Assembly, New York, NY.
_ Sept. 25: Vice President Cheney is scheduled to appear at a Republican fund-raiser in Milwaukee, WI.
_ Nov. 28-29, 2006: President Bush will travel to Tallanin, Estonia, for meetings with the President and Prime Minister of Estonia, and then travel to Riga, Latvia, for the NATO summit.
I am sooooooooooooooooo excited for you . . . of course, we expect a 'full report' Monday evening!
tm! What a picture that is, of you huddled under a tarp, computing away. I'm glad you didn't have your Pc or any appliances shorting out. You must be thrilled to have that roof fixed. Good job.
No, sorry I don't know what the black stripes are for, GEM. But what's been bothering me since I saw the Dose is, "How the heck did Laura get her left leg out to take the next step without tripping over whatever that thing is in her path?"
Well, at first I thought, Parasite! But then I thought, Nah, she wouldn't have taken the arm of a ship's captain. So our military would be safe on that count. In fact, I wonder if she'd even accept being the "sponsor" of anything in the US fleet.
These are things we can be grateful for.
Congrats: you know what for by now!
LOL!
*snort* Funny dog! Did you get that divinity at Stuckey's?
Texas Pingggggggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!
:Hang on Sloopy" maybe.........with an O - H - I - O in the middle, but the FIGHT SONG??
Is the First Couple together tonight? Can they console each other?? That would make me feel better about their loss........ ;)
Note to self...........the game is not yet over. Settle down, ohio.......settle down.......
Same with our "My Country, 'tis of Thee" = the same song (with different words) the Brits play on occasions similar to when we sing our "My Country ... ." Can't recall the name of the British version. I just saw a show the other day about QE2's life and the British version was being played at a ceremony for the queen.
I know that you can get into and out of angle pockets more quickly than straight across ones. Probably makes them easier to use for the wearer.
"Is the First Couple together tonight? Can they console each other?? That would make me feel better about their loss........ ;)"
I had the same thought! . . . I'm assuming Laura returned to the WhiteHouse tonight -- they've got a busy day tomorrow!
They're probably sound asleep with the TIVO going. (Maybe they consoled each other before they even found out the outcome of the game.........ya think? ;)
Do you (or any other DOSER) have the times for tomorrow's events? . . . I plan to record all major events tomorrow and Monday!
You're NUMBER ONE!
"(Maybe they consoled each other before they even found out the outcome of the game.........ya think? ;)"
I LOVE the way you think!!
[Texas is looking abit dangerous at the moment!]
What a great photo. With the full moon framed in the background!!!
. . . 'wrote' too soon; the Buckeyes just picked up another first down!
HA! In what regard, onyx?? :)
OSU for one!
Looking REAL good now!
(You like the way I think because you THINK the way I think.....)
(I just didn't know if you meant with our 'friend' on the other thread.... :)
LOL. Somehow I think they'd relish the competition.
I'm not touching that other thread tonight. You have the last word tonight. Old rascal. He's lonely.
Thanks :) Maybe I'll take pictures too so everyone can see my desk.
Well, W and Laura can't get TOO mad at Ohio, now can they?
LOL. Nope.
Hope he knows I'm one of the 'good guys.'
LOL --- "guys" --- I called him on that error.
Thank you. Those two men had a lot in common.
Bubba demolished my prescription glasses also.
I got two pair to replace them; one for me and one for him.
But he never got them again. I think he knew I was ticked.
Bubba is very tall and could counter surf with ease and get anything. Fortunately, he's never developed that habit.
Great Pix!
Okay, you people are not going to seduce me again.
The other day there was a thread that disintegrated into recipe sharing and I foolishly succumbed, and made a spice cake with cream cheese icing.
That is the last cake I will ever make! It was good, but the bakery makes them just as good and a lot smaller. If that cake would keep, it would last forever. I only allow myself one small sweet a day and the domestic partner's idea of a piece of cake is one inch square.
So, don't even think of tricking me into making divinity!!
No, I won't.
Well, it ain't over till it's over.
If that makes you feel better, friend........ :)
She actually used the Buckeyes fight song as her wedding march!!]
That's what I call team loyalty! LOL.
Thanks for this news ping.
For your information our government including the PM are made up on MPs who continue to serve as MPs as well as running a government department and their cabinet duties.
Thanks for the info
9 seconds to go, 24-7...........GOOD NIGHT, ALL!!
GO BUCKEYES!! NUMBER ONE!!
SMILING!
G'Night, oWf.
Bush's commemoration of the anniversary of the attacks will begin Sunday afternoon in New York, where he will lay a wreath at Ground Zero before taking part in a prayer service.
On Monday, he will begin his day with breakfast with emergency service personnel in New York, then will participate in a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the time that the first plane slammed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, and then a ceremony with New York first responders.
From there, Bush will travel to Shanksville, Pa., where just after noon he is scheduled to participate in a wreath-laying. Later that afternoon, he will take part in a similar ceremony at the Pentagon.
Of course, our good friends at CSPAN are no help with this and do not mention President Bush in their schedule until his address from the Oval Office, Monday at 9PM Eastern.
"They're probably sound asleep with the TIVO going. (Maybe they consoled each other before they even found out the outcome of the game.........ya think?"
