Why is education any different from other businesses? You get the best results when you get the best people. If we want educated kids, we need good teachers and we're not going to do that by paying $6,000 less than the national average.

You my friend are not a conservative. No conservative in their right mind believes money is the solution for education. That is a propaganda spew straight from the teacher's unions. John Stossel just did an excellent expose on the myth of 'more money'...check it out. Also Ann Colter dispel's the mythology of higher teacher salaries in her newest book 'Godless'...lol

I'm not forgetting anything. I'm just saying that Perry will win. Nothing negative about Friedman. Perry has a 12-13 point lead over 2 opponents, he has the backing of the GOP, he is the incumbent, and he has the precedent of Jesse Ventura.

I've lived in Texas my entire life, thank you very much.

I would not vote for Kinky if he was the only candidate on the ballot. Just like I will not vote for Van Taylor for Congress.

Texas is going to be the laughing stock of the US if Kooky gets elected. If he wins, I am sure that he will only be a one term governor because the people of Texas will come to realize how foolish they were to elect a goof ball like him. Imagine, Willie Nelson will be in his administration. What a joke!

TASP was before TAAS. It was originally implement because so many functionally illiterate students were being passed on. It was tied to Ross's pet project No Pass No Play. Standardized testing has been around alot longer than that in Texas, however it stopped once elementary school was over.

Part of the problem with the school system is the bloated administration, consultants and the waste of time and money for "seminars" teachers go to during the school year. Then there is the waste of time and energy making sure everyone has positive self-esteem because we are all the center of the universe. (Sing 2 verses of Kumbayah now) If teachers simply taught the 3R's the students would pass the tests.

Yesterday the House Committee on Ways and Means passed a school finance plan.The House plan, which will subsidize a 27-cent per $100 valuation property tax cut, is expected to come before the full house next week.The plan preserves the current franchise tax, but expands it to include more companies than it currently does.The plan will also add an additional one-cent to the current sales tax, and will expand the list of taxable services and products.There will also be an additional $1 per pack cigarette tax.

Governor Perry voiced his approval of the progress made toward a school finance reform solution, saying, “I applaud Chairman Keffer and the House leadership for voting out of committee a good bill. Keffer’s compromise plan will provide substantial property tax relief and close loopholes in the franchise tax so every corporation pays its share. The "Robin Hood" Plan that was ruled unconstitutional by the Texas Supreme court was a defacto state property tax on individuals. All of the NON-Texans on this thread want Kinky. They want to kill Interstate road construction, and damage Texas.

He was involved in politics LONG before he became governor of California.

Perhaps you could take the time to read a speech he gave in 1964 titled, "A Time for Choosing."

By the way, comparing Ronald Reagan to Kinky Friedman or Jesse Ventura is ridiculous.

In Texas the Lt. Governor has more actual power, I have always wondered why more serious attention is not paid to who holds that postition.

With Perry gone, perhaps someone will step in and put a stop to Spain owning toll roads in Texas, to tax payer paid highways being turned into toll roads, the Trans-Texas Corridor, and other non-sense.

What if you built a toll-road and no one came?
