Minister Louis Farrakhan has announced that he is gravely ill and has temporarily abdicated his leadership of the Nation of Islam to the executive board, according to the Associated Press.

Asking for solidarity so that the Nation "will live long after I and we have gone," the 73 year-old has taken time to recover from a "serious infection and inflammation," according to a letter he dated September 11 and posted in the Nation's Final Call newspaper.
