I've brought this up before but I see a pattern here. I'd still bet on San Fran Nan...

1999 -- Hastert R (not Leader nor Whip)
1995 -- Gingrich R (was Whip, Leader Michel retired)
1989 -- Foley D (was Leader)
1987 -- Wright D (was Leader)
1977 -- O'Neill D (was Leader)
1971-- Albert D (was Leader)
1962 -- McCormack D (was Leader)
1955 -- Rayburn D (was Leader)
1953 -- Martin R (was Leader)
1949 -- Rayburn D (was Leader)
1947 -- Martin R (was Leader)
1940 -- Rayburn D (was Leader)
1936 -- Bankhead D (was Leader)
1935 -- Byrns D (was Leader)
1933 -- Rainey D (was Leader)
1931 -- Garner D (was Leader)
1925 -- Longworth R (was Leader)
1919 -- Gillett R (not Leader nor Whip)
1911 -- Clark D (wss Leader)
1903 -- Cannon R (not Leader nor Whip)

"Exactly my thoughts. If turn out is much higher for conservatives then the dims believe then they will challange the vote count. They are so disgusting. I don't know how they stand themselves or each other. Putrid dims."

Exactly, Bitsy. Let me guess...the rats already have a "fleet of 10,000 lawyers" ready to challenge the election!

Ya just know they do.

I hate that. It seems until every liberal dim is gone we will have to fight every election. Because they are morally bankrupt they want everyone to believe that we are too. Dirty Rats!!!

Lemme get this straight... The social conservatives are so upset by a gay GOP Congressman that they will turn the Congress over to the party of gay marriage. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quite sniffing glue.

"It seems until every liberal dim is gone we will have to fight every election. "

Right...but it's not just every election we have to fight for, think of how much harder our brave troops have to fight to win in Iraq, all because the namby-pamby girlymen libnuts are hellbent on them losing.

It is a crime, pure and simple. The majority of libs in Congress voted FOR the war and now they want us to lose.

The rats should never again be allowed to govern.

My take is that when you see her - you see nothing inspiring, nothing which generates confidence, nothing even remotely connoting leadership. It's one thing to waste a Minority Leader designation when you are out of power - it's another to automatically anoint that person for control when you actually attain majority status. I don't think the Democrats are that stupid. Dumb, yes.

That was for the Minority leader race though, big deal, if the house is that close there will be several Representatives from both parties who are not in the leadership who are going to think of making a move to become speaker, mostly because they view themselves as the best qualified. I would not be surprised if one made such a move.

If the split is close like 217-218, there might be a person crossing over to vote for someone of the other party.

36% Feel House Speaker Hastert Should Resign

Rassmussen did a poll on Foleygate. Out of ALL respondents, Democrats and Republicans only 36% felt Hastert should go, 64% either did not or did not care.

Pretty much nukes the "Everyone hates the GOP" story line being spread by Donner Party "Conservatives" now does it not?

Then there is this little gem. HERE is what happened after Watergate, the start of one of the worst recessions in US History and Ford pardoning Nixon. Lutz et al are telling us THIS year is going to be worse. Worse? A booming economy? A scandal no one but the Always Angry care about, A war no wear near as unpopular as Vietnam is going to result in WORSE fall out for the GOP then 1974?

http://www.ashbrook.org/publicat/oped/busch/06/1974.html

When the votes were counted, Democratic hopes had been realized. Republicans lost 48 House seats, five Senate seats, and statehouse after statehouse. The Democratic scythe cut most deeply in previously Republican suburbs where concerns about the economy and clean government resonated strongly.

One suspects the Donner Party "Conservatives" are merely HOPING it will be worse. After all these are the clowns who gave us the absurd "Win by losing" dogma of the politically suicidal.

This Sabato guy is a Dem shill, so I'd take what he's saying with a grain of salt. There's still one month minus two days to go.

The GOP got an unexpected break with the current news that N. Korea is doing nuke testing. Tht should put national security back on the front burner and dilute the MSM obsession with the Foley story.

Some conservatives have used the specter of "Speaker Pelosi" as an ultra-liberal bogeywoman to scare their base into voting. But as a mother of five with no apparent moral blemishes on her public record, "maybe she's the one to clean up the mess," Sabato said. "Who would you trust the (congressional) pages to?"

If there was any question of Larry Sabato's "impartiality" (in the wake of his "I know George Allen used racial epithets...er...actually, some reliable friends of mine told me" debacle), that question is certainly answered in this paragraph. Sabato is not an idiot, and he is certainly aware of San Fran Nan's votes in the Studds and Franks affairs. He is also aware that Pelosi's staff belatedly submitted travel declarations to the Ethics Committee back when the Democrats were trying to make an issue of Tom Delays frequent junkets.

For the umpteenth time, Nancy Pelosi is not going to be Speaker regardless of who wins in November. If the Dems take control of the House, they will immediately launch a smear campaign against Pelosi, and Steny Hoyer will be voted in as Speaker in January.

Here is how I see it:

NY 1 GOP seat in danger
PA 1-2
OH 3
IN 3
IL-1
IA 1
MN 1
NC-1
CO 1
NM-1
AZ 1
TX 1
FL 1

That's more than 15. And I probably missed some

GA has 2 DEM seats in danger

it is fr fetched cuz it takes 67n votesd to remove a president in the senate....also in your writing you use the term "one way or another" in describing how congress will remove Cheney......so obviously you either havent given this much thought or are arguing for arguments sake

It's hard to tell how things could play out. I'm just having fun exploring the odd byways of the law and politics.

Don't bet on the RATs loosing seats in GA. Marshall and Barrow are more liberal than they talk (don't you hate it when they lie). Both have low ACU ratings and claim to be conservative. The rest of the GOP candidates look great in GA. Reelect Perdue Gov and Cagle LtGov.

I can't believe people are falling for the Foley thing. Do they really think the party of Bill Clinton, Gerry Studds and Barney Frank will promote family values?

The finals for Minority Leader were between Pelosi (Minority Whip at the time) and Harold Ford, Jr. Whips have a habit of moving up to Leader as well. Ford's challenge got him some ink back home, and especially a portrayal as a "moderate," which compared to Pelosi, he is...although by Tennessee standards, he is not. But hey, if you lose 177-29 to Pelosi, you must be a moderate, eh?
