GREAT FIND Smooth!!!
"Rep. John Murtha fooled me.
Everyone who knows him says it makes less difference to Murtha whether something is right or wrong, good or bad, ethical or un-, than whether it's a smart deal for him and his political friends.
WAKE UP GOP! SUPPORT DIANA IREY!!!

No it is not weakness.
The incumbent usually has the advantage of the press (especially if he is aligned with them by being a liberal as the press is) so the challenger benefits most from debates.
The incumbent will usually turn them down so he does not have to outline his program. Of course Murtha turns debate down because he knows he will be outed (again) for being the un-American unpatriotic scum that he is. (not a personal attack, just facts...)
Weak/Strong. Har. I'll bet Irey could arm wrestle Murtha to the ground.

When I was growing up, it was rare that any TV station other than PBS (WQED-13 and WQEX-16 in Pittsburgh) would air political debates. I'm not sure if Johnstown even has a PBS affiliate....they don't...but according to the web, State College, PA does and their signal reaches Johnstown.
"Several television stations here in the district have offered to air the debate." -- so I would assume they are not talking about community access cable.
To: scrabblehack
Yes, I was surprised to hear that three stations would televise but I don't know anything about the stations there, I live in Washington state. LOL

Stage and "empty chair" debate? Would that be any different than if he DID show?LOL!
An empty chair would be more aesthetically appealing than a chair with an empty suit in it!

Republicans should be calling for the resignation of Murtha and Harry Reid because of "the appearance of impropriety" in their lives.

Thanks for the ping, and yes she has been and is an inspiration, thoughts and prayers for her, her family, and US Congress... by extension that means US.
To: smoothsailing
She ought to make a commercial debating an empty lectern and put it on the Internet. You know local talk radio & maybe even a local TV station would pick it up and run with it.

Generally if someone is so far ahead there is no reason to debate.
Rejecting debate is a way to say that the oposition is not a legitimate contender.
Once tactic to counter this is to have someone in a chicken suit following murth everwhere.
Murtha the coward
Murtha the chicken
Murtha the surrender monkey

"This is a high profile race and still no poll has been publicly released?"
IIRC a poll showed up here in the last week with Murtha only up 10% and Irey quickly closing. As the message of what he really is, gets out, some will notice and change their mind on him. I think she'll win comfortably in the end.
