It's a pretty cool process which reduces the polution/runoff problems. The economics aren't there yet, but as the process scales up, they might be down the road. The cow and pig poop is a real hazardous waste problem. It won't give off methane when spead on a field, but it does as it breaks down anaerobically (ie: in a waste lagoon as they call them). The methane digester takes poop in one end and captures the methane as the poop breaks down into compost at the other end. For someone operating a methane digester, there are carbon credits to be sold - still and likely to remain a voluntary market. It would be interesting to see what the economics of the whole thing are for the consumer, the producer, the utility, and the cows..
