Election may transform Bush presidency
The State/WP ^ | Oct. 22, 2006 | WP

If Democrats win one or both houses of Congress on Nov. 7, the result will transform the remainder of Bush’s time in office and dramatically shift the balance of power in Washington. Ending a dozen years basically passed in exile, congressional Democrats would have a chance to help steer the nation again — after a campaign spent mostly assailing Bush’s vision rather than detailing their own.

Emboldened by victory and bitter from grievance, Democrats could use their ascendance to block Bush’s agenda, force him to respond to theirs and begin a new era of aggressive oversight and investigation.

A Democratic victory, analysts in both parties said, could mean some of Bush’s tax cuts would not be renewed, attempts to revive his Social Security investment plan would be doomed and efforts to further broaden national security powers in the face of civil liberties concerns would be thwarted.

Most worrisome to the White House is the subpoena power Democrats would gain with a majority in the House or Senate. For years, Republicans have been mostly deferential in scrutinizing the Bush administration, but Democrats are eager to re-examine an array of issues, such as Vice President Dick Cheney’s energy task force, the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal and preparations for the Iraq war.

THIS is what's at stake, not to mention the War on Terror.

I hope after reading the above you will all decide that this election is too important to sit out or engage in protest vote, helping the Dems take control of the country.

VOTE and VOTE Republican!

PS. Those of you unhappy that the Republicans didn't enact a more conservative agenda, just remember the reason for it: DEM OBSTRUCTION.

Don't reward the Dems for their obstruction of the conservative agenda, by putting them in power.

You know you can over do it. There is a perverse curiosity to see what comes of chaos.

You are sounding a little like a someone who makes their living from this, rather than just a passionate conservative.

You need to acknowledge that it hasn't just/only been due to DemRat obstruction. With a majority in both houses, the Reps 'should' have been able to get things done and passed. It's been the RINOs that have hampered our conservative efforts all along. And those RINOs should be voted OUT of office. And in my opinion, McCain should be the first one to go. He's like the proverbial chatty cathy doll. Push his button and you never know which of his 10-11 standard phrases, ranging from Bush-bashing to Bush-praising, he's going to blurt out.

And those RINOs should be voted OUT of office.

That's what primary elections are for.

Dummycrat behavior is no excuse for the GOP becoming fat, lazy and taking it for granted that people will continue to support them. Let's face it, the 'Rats can't do much more damage to the Republicans than what the Republicans have already done to themselves.

I oculdn't agree with you more. But if we didn't have the RINOs, we wouldn't have control. We need MORE Republicans, to have decisive control, THEN we can pick off the RINOs, but to replace them now with Dems is really cutting off our nose to spite our face. Or to use another analogy, being angry that we have the flu, we vote ourselves a full fledged life threatening pneumonia, to punish our body for having been weak and caught the flu.

The trouble is, you and I see McCain as a national figure that we should get rid of, but if I remember right his numbers as a senator in Arizona are huge, sometimes we forget that a McCain or a Hillary can only be removed by their local voters, and in both cases the voters love them.

And what does a "passionate conservative" sound like? Do you consider those ""passionate conservatives", who advocate the conservatives punish the Republicans, by staying home or voting third party, and by doing this, implement the Dem strategy and help the Dems win?

This is how the Dems scuttled President Bush's social security reform -- it was them, not the Republicans.

"Acting on advice from marketing gurus after the 2004 presidential election, Pelosi ordered her ranks to assail the Bush privatization plan while offering nothing of their own that the Republicans could counterassault. Week after week impatient Democrats asked, "When can we propose a plan?" and week after week she intoned, "Never."

Madam Speaker? Pelosi Likes the Sound

I can't believe there are still people on FR so fricking stupid they think the RATS should win "to teach the Rinos a lesson". That's like killing yourself to upset your ex-girlfriend.

This is beyond absurd! They are almost talking of victory in the past tense. Go ahead Dems, have your frenzied orgasms while you still can.

a campaign spent mostly assailing Bush’s vision rather than detailing their own.

Yup, that pretty much sums it up.

...bitter from grievance, Democrats...

Do they think Democrats are the only ones with a grievance?

Wanna bet? It's hard to face something that's just not true.

Funny how the MSM never runs storys about what if the democrats DONT win the house. Which I feel is extremely likely.

An excellent analogy! It's suicidal for Republicans to turn over power to the Dems.

No, I mean that I thought you were a passionate conservative, I always agreed with you and strongly supported voting republican and voting for Arnold, but your relentless and patronizing posts, this close to the election are a turn off.

You sound a little like a professional rather than just a guy who is promoting a point of view that I agree with.

You can encourage us but you are starting to sound a little patronizing, and you seem unduly focused on Arnold Schwarzenegger who I support, but you almost seem to work forhim.

Look, I'm going to vote, okay? Why you knuckleheads think you'll get a higher Republican turnout by taunting and insulting angry conservatives, I have no idea. Do us all a favor and tone it down a notch.
