WASHINGTON - When he was asked recently why Americans aren't delighted by their strong economy, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson called that the $64,000 question.

It's funny we never hear about them "stuggling to get ahead" during the Clintonista regime's "boomin' economy." Communist propaganda.

This is shocking. Who ever would have thought that in a competitive economy, some people will outperform others and, gasp, some people will be outperformed. My perception of the world around me has been turned upside down.

Is necessary to talk the economy down, at least before Nov. 7

You are so right. The proper liberal propagandist must always, always, find the dark lining in any cloud, when forecasting for Republicans, and must always diligently pick for the tiniest speck of hope in the darkest moment for any Democrat. To them, that is journalism.

We'll all be hurting if Democrats get control of the House and they manage to raise taxes. I think Bush would veto, but do we really want to take that chance?

When he was asked recently why Americans aren't delighted by their strong economy...

Uh? How about? 40% of the American population are partisan Dims, and being delighted about the current boom would only benefit the GOP?

The article seems to highlight energy and health care costs. In Maryland here the last all dem legislature(1999) signed on a deal to sell BG&E (Baltimore Gas and Electric). It came into effect last year and many home's energy bills have DOUBLED. Health care costs have numerous reasons. I wouldn't want to hijack a thread (illegal aliens forcing hospitals to shut down). So I'll just stick with the local energy issue. We need to drill, we need more power plants, we need more infrastructure and competition. The most likely party to advance these is the Republican party. /rant

Almost everyone I know is struggling. Professional, college educated, married, divorced, whatever. Even with all the outward signs of "the good life," there is little peace. It really is a shame.

Younger people starting out, who haven't had any reversals and don't really have any major obligations, seem to be sailing along just fine, however, and are effective exponents of a boom economy. Their biggest problem is deciding what to wear to a party.

The number people who really do have it in balance -- a decent life and a decent life style, is pretty small indeed.

Still, is it me, is it just New York, or is everyone stressed and overly touchy?

Nevermind, I know the answer.

Exactly! If you believe the MSM, this is the worst economy since the invention of money. And isn't it amazing how these stories start flying two weeks before an election?

Its an easy answer: many people are not capable of self-denial. Our family of 6 gets by on slightly more than the nat'l median income for a family of 4 just fine. Our only debt is a small mortgage and a small car payment. No credit card period, pay everything by check or cash. We still give the kids nice presents for birthdays and christmas, even manage to support two kid's interest in ice hockey (mucho $$$!). LAst time we bought a new car? 1996. Did we buy more house than we could afford? No. Do we have all the latest gadjets? No. Too many people who make decent incomes think they're entitled to live like the wealthy, rather than be content with the blessings they have.

Eh, anyone prepping their kids for scholarships for college is more than likely going to be disappointed. There are very few of those to go around.

The exception is at large state schools, but even then, only a limited percentage of kids are going to receive them, and it takes more than just an above average student to receive them.

Perhaps we'll see more kids entering needed and professional-geared fields like engineering as college becomes more of an investment..

"Despite strong economy, some struggle to get ahead..."

That is the briefest history lesson I ever read.

Couldn't agree with you more! Most people I know are like that guy in the Commercial, playing golf at his club, his great kids, a house in the suburbs, riding lawn mower and It's KILLING him!! hee, hee.. that's what happens when you are silly, self absorbed and want to impress others!
Out on a limb.
