DES MOINES, Iowa A Democratic Congressional candidate from Iowa is canceling a campaign event later this week with Senator John Kerry.

Brucy Braley says Kerry's recent comments about the Iraq war were inappropriate. Braley's decision to distance himself from Kerry came as a furor grew from comments Kerry made about the Iraq War during a campaign stop in California on Monday.

I am not even American (doesn't alter my being pro-US and a GOP well-wisher) but this guys comments disgust me. A politician who kept his hatred of his country's power for as long as he has and yet made it this far in his career is shameful. I hope you guys find a way to help him find his place in the garbage dump of American history.

The politicians know he steppped in it this time.

The man is a true idiot. You could see it coming when he started bragging about how he was going to really give it to anyone who tries to Swiftboat him again. He was building up to this and when he got enough rope he hanged himself. The man really is stupid. A simple apology could have saved him.

He'll never give an apology.

You could be right. JFK doesn't have a moral bone in his body and such things are foreign to him. He is a blue-blooded nothing sucking at the teat of privelage.

Last week I heard the father of a soldier who recently died in Iraq on the Laura Ingrahm show. That man spoke so proudly of his son and at times his voice cracked. Tears spilled down my face as I pondered the loss of a child. And yet it's how we do in this country. Our CITIZENS provide a military that not only protects our country but also the entire planet! What would this Earth place be like were it not for the American military? The mind boggles at the thought.

As bad as I hurt for that man who lost his 20-year old son, when Kerry made those mean remarks I got nauseous. How on earth could anyone, especially a U.S. Senator, say such a mean and nasty thing? Sure I'm on the pubbie side and the political benefit is not lost on me.

Even so, it's waaaaaay more than a political benefit to me. Kerry's remarks hurt me to the core.

I suspect the Dem party is going to have disown this man completely. I see no other way out for the Dems. Unless they hold a knife to Kerry's throat and make him apologize and frankly I don't think even that's going to do it.

The only definitive statement the opposition party can make regarding their vapid and very mean 2004 presidential candidate is to vanish him from the public eye.

For JFK made the worst mistake an American politician can make. He spit in the eye of the mighty Middle class, that vast demograph of American citizens who carry this country on their back. The Middle Class carries this country on its back; not the politicians, not Hollywood. We provide the soldiers for our military, not the politicians, not Hollywood. Any seasoned politico knows not to step on the mighty but often silent Middle class. Well damn, we're too busy carrying this country on our back, raising the soldiers and citizens of tomorrow, working and raising the economic status of not only the U.S., but the entire planet.

The political junkee side of my brain ponders what the Dems are going to do. They've got a nuke on their hands now and Kerry's timing was sooooo perfect, direct in the middle of the news cycle, one week before an important election. I write fiction and couldn't have come up with this Perfect Storm.

The emotional side of me desperately wants Kerry eliminated from the national scene. What he said was so damn mean and frankly, I am embarrassed. Let's hope our military believes us, the silly, non-blue-blooded minions of the Middle Class, that we in no way agree with John Kerry.

I really hurt for what Kerry said. The Dems really need to do the right thing here, on so many levels.

Kerry has become so comfortable insulting people that he let his guard down.

If you listen to him for the last few years, its just one insult after another.

He has become accustomed to a butler wiping his butt, a rich widow footing his bills, and insulting anyone he disagrees with.

Bothced Joke or not, he owes an apology and resignation.

Why are the Democrat candidates who are former members of the military not jumping to the defense of their fellow soldiers?

Because they are more pro-Democrat then they are Pro-Military.

Kerry said what he said and meant what he said because the context of the statement was not about President Bush it was about individuals getting an education. He called our troops dumb and for that he needs to leave the Senate. He's pulled the same thing time after time so this isn't a single gaff, it's his true feelings.

Hey, class of '98! Some joker on another thread last night was talking crap about the class of 98 attitude.

IMO anyone who has been on FR for at least 8 years deserves some deference.

Eight years in web time is how many eternities?

Anyway, at a minimum Kerry's comments are going to be a distraction. Even if candidates buy his explanation they know it will be hard to be seen with someone perceived to be trashing the troops. This would get them off message if they had a message!

"Enough is enough. We're not going to stand for this," Kerry said. "We are going to stay in their face with the truth."
After the roar of approvals from his supporters, Kerry continued, "However, over the next couple of weeks, I will too busy to stay in their faces as I have other engagements to attend to, i.e. changing the tires on my serotta, and waxing my skis for the upcoming season. KEEP THE FIGHT GOING!" Tepid, sporadic clapping with quizzical looks around.

Kerry is a lying traitor.

Brucy Braley says Kerry's recent comments about the Iraq war were inappropriate........

Let's get this straight: Kerry did NOT make "comments" about "the war".

Kerry was making comments about education and how important education was. At the end, he threw in the snide remark that young people should get educated or else risk being "stuck in Iraq".

Kerry did not make a "botched joke" about Bush as Bush was nowhere mentioned in his comments about education. Kerry did not make comments about the war and why he is for or against it.

Kerry made an elitist snide remark about how America's volunteer Armed Forces are "in Iraq" because they are too uneducated to be somewhere else. Kerry slandered the American soldier, again, and he is once again too much of a coward to take responsibility for his own words.

Yes, but just HOW did he implant the Rove Stupid Remark Generating Microchip inside Lurch? Maybe concealed in one of those gin-soaked raisins, hehe;)

I understand the microchip was hidden inside a big basket of rice that Kerry blew up with a grenade in some far south-eastern country way back when... I believe it the transmitter is lodged right next to Kerry's brain pan - in his gluteus maximus!

I'll be the chip uses the implanted rice kernels as a natural power source, too!!!! Rove is SOOOOOOO magnificent, in his own way...

O'Reilly has done this crap before, such as when he worked to try to undermine the Swifties and defend Kerry in the 2004 campaign. He thinks if he defends John "Vichy" Kerry against legitimate criticism it will make him (O'Reilly) seem more independent-minded. What a pantload.....

Gosh, if it was "botched", what did he mean to say?

As I posted earlier... Comrade Kuby (of Curtis & Kuby on WABC Radio) defended Lurch by reading his "real" speech, which was written by aides and not what was used, and how he just botched the joke part and then Kuby did his usual ranting about how Bush sent our kids off to die, which in his opinion is the real issue.
