So how moderate are our new Democratic overlords? (VANITY)
Me ^ | November 8, 2006 | Me

Posted on 11/07/2006 10:10:21 PM PST by Dont Mention the War

Okay, here's my vanity for the evening.

Looking past the (D)s after all the names of tonight's winners, where do you think most of them stand ideologically? I'm trying to see some hope in that many of the true worst of the worst did not succeed (e.g. Ned Lamont, the media darling but not-qualified-enough-yet Harold Ford, Jr., that icky Wetterling person who is just plain incompetent to serve, etc.). From my perusal of the winners, most of the newcomers seem to be closer to the semirational DLC wing of the party than from the wacko Pelosi/MoveOn/DU/Kos moonbat wing of the Democratic Party.

If I'm right, we can at least take solace in that 1) we can work with these people to some extent, and at worst expect gridlock, which ain't all that bad in and of itself, and b) the moonbats will quickly become even more insane than ever, once they realize these people are too moderate to give them what they want (a pullout from Iraq, Bush impeachment hearings, etc.).

So what say you?

So how moderate are our new Democratic overlords?

The President, the GOP and the War on Terror took one right in the two hole today. That's how moderate they are.

Welcome to 1975.

They are extreme leftists. They feel emboldened now that the Natural Order Of Things has been rightfully restored. And the Drive Bys/MSM will never criticize them.

The US has definately changed...and not for the better...but...BUSH is still POSTUS at least for another couple of years, so, there is hope.

Folks, sometimes the bad guys win...they won tonight...but that doesnt mean they'll win tomorrow or the next day.

It matters little what the true ideology of newcomers may be. If they want to survive in the Congress, they "go along to get along". They'll have to kowtow to the whims of the Pelosi and Reid agenda (yes, Reid... the senate is lost too.)

On the plus side, this wasn't at all unexpected, not just from a punditry standpoint, but from a historical standpoint. Sixth year midterms almost always go big against the party in power. If one were to try to put a positive spin on this, it does give the leftists two years to show their true colors and lack of ideas before the next big election.

We're more than likely going to lose the Senate too; nobody's going to be "working" with us about jack.

Bank this:

This election guarantees a Republican president in 08'.

The Republicans can now play offense again and we'll see how an aimless Democratic party implodes trying to come of as moderate and fiscally conservative with the moonbats biting at their heals.

Romney is in the catbird seat.

This is a Disaster for America and the World and makes me question the wisdom of our democracy. The Democrats, given power will destroy the nation and therefore for the sake of our nation is should be considered if the Democrats should be seated by the current GOP Leadership. Such an action would look bad for the GOP but would be the best for America.

Agreed -- we need to see what they will really do.If they are wise they will proceed with caution

If they decide to over turn and destroy everything at one their coming into power will be short lived.

They aren't Zell Miller or even Leiberman. They are fakes that ran on conservatism, and could do it and win, because the GOP failed to govern as the real deal for a contrast.

Expect nothing good from their aisle.

Nonsense. The Democrats have an opportunity to remake themselves in the eyes of the American people. Can they do it and appeal to the South? Fat chance, but it can only be good for the country for the Dims to be forced to appeal to a wider cross section of the country.

The Pubs need to lick their wounds and get back to what got em into power.

Losing is not altogether a bad thing.

Hillary is going to run for President tomorrow morning. Assuming she gets nominated, the Democrats have the Northeast, the Midwest and the Pacific Coast locked up. They can concentrate on Florida and the Rocky Mountain States and Arizona to put her over the top. If you think the Democrats are bad, you ain't see nothing yet.

The news media are touting the new wave of Democrats as moderates. But they will drift to the left after they're settled in D.C.

If the Democrats take the Senate, the radicalization will accelerate.

It's not Quite as bad as it seems. Americans in MO rejected the stem cell amendment. Virginians passed the Marriage amendment. The problem was that Repubs and moderates were mad-- about earmarks, about how govt and exec branches are in big Pharma's and big Oil and big Food's pockets. Health care costs are rising while big Pharma uses taxpayer money to buy more ads on tv, and young taxpayers are told to set up health care savings accounts. We want to WIN in Iraq; we have failed to intimidate with the military power we have.

I think this is a la Carter after Watergate-- a reaction. What will happen is that people will realize the mistake they made and elect better candidates next time.

It honestly does not matter. The Democrats are perceived as being more dovish than the Republicans - therefore their success will be perceived abroad as a collapse in American will to sustain the fight on terror.

I hope that people have gotten their indignation with President Bush out of their system. We can now expect 2 years of argument and paralysis.

The strings have been pulled, we will just have to wait to see who wins the war. I have little faith in the American public, having the pleasure of traveling our beautiful country on a regular basis, and meeting many of the limp wrist-ed, which are getting rarer, as the illegals now have their jobs. The majority of people I work around, are the "you owe me" crowd. Fifteen years ago I would have never made a statement like this, but things have really changed. Allot of these people I have the pleasure to work around were born in barns, or jerked up, not raised.

We are loosing the cultural war, and the War on Terror.

Well said the other day i saw this guy while working who said we should have a nationalised health care such as Canada & Finland etc. just so he could retire.

Hitler thought the same thing & created Hitler youth where he said in a speech that all young German boys would be built like Krupp steel i liken our young of today as the youth raised in public schools & built like Chinese plastic.

While many of the dems that were elected tonight are touted by the media as "moderates" or even "conservative," let's not fool ourselves... The ones in charge of the dem party, and the ones controlling the purse strings, are of the barking moonbat variety. I think that the voters who elected those "moderates" are going to be in for a surprise when they realize what they've done.

The Democrats had to fake being conservative. Its going to be interesting to see many of the Democrats elected from GOP districts square their professed conservatism with the hard leftist ideology of the party's leaders.

"This is a Disaster for America and the World"

I understand how you feel and you may be right but I will share with you I felt very much the same in the 70's with the tanking of Nixon, the cut and run from Viet Nam and the hell of Carter. I felt sure that the loss of the proxy war would be a disaster.

It gave us a chance to find conservatives and eventually tank the Soviet Union. True Carter gave us some problems we're still living with much like Clinton did, but such is the nature of the world.

I can't exactly say with conviction that it's darkest before the dawn, but perhaps if this helps us find our conservative nature again, what with us out liberaling liberals not quite working out, we'll find our ground again and next time around offer a conservative agenda.

Exactly, they will be 'forced' to tow the line.

One hope is that their level of conservatism actually causes a party split. They will have to be real tough first termers to accomplish it. They would have to be willing to lift the mask of the leaders of the democratic party and reveal them for what they are.

I don't hold out much for that hope.

You do realize if Al Qaeda explodes a nuclear device in America, all discussion of getting back on track will be rendered irrelevant. The Democrats do not realize the enemy is different from the Soviets - they're not interested in negotiations, compromise or co-existence. They want to kill us. As I see it, yesterday's vote was to resume the 90s holiday from history. It is as if 9/11 never happened. Well we will find out what the Party Of 9/10 has in store for us all.

A lot of Americans have no memory of the Carter years and the Misery Index and the loss of American prestige and power. The Democrats have learned nothing from Vietnam. They did a masterful job of hiding their leftist agenda from the American people. But for them the problem is that to survive, they have to implement that agenda. And that will cost them dearly in the long run.
