That's a depressing thought -- having the choice be between a liberal Democrat and a liberal Republican. McCain or Guiliani would be good ways to get shellacked, since they will be totally incapable of motivating the base to turn out. If you think tonight was bad...

But I think that you are probably right that we'll be stuck either with McLame or with a liberal New Yorker as our "conservative" nominee. W may be the last thing resembling a conservative we have the privilege of voting for for president...

If Bush (and the conservatives) can't get a good nominee, he should leave the Supreme Court seat vacant. There's no rule that he HAS to appoint someone right away.

Alas, I wonder if the President will have the moxy to actually do this.

Hey - don't blame me - I didn't vote for any of these stinking dems - they were against anything Bush wants - so now that they can get their way - they'll do what he wants .. I don't think so. And .. Bush could fool us all and not sign it.

Unless I have missed something, I think THIS man would make an excellent candidate....and I would PAY to see him debate Hillary.

Not necessarily. You got senators such as Nelson from Nebraska that could put a conservative over the top.

The problem is that Leahy will be the chairman of the Senate Judiciary committee.

If there is a supreme opening, Bush should nominate the most conservative minority that he can find. And then force the issue with the Senate. Keep sending conservatives with impeccable qualifications. Use recess appointments if necessary. Playing nice is how we lost this election. Conservatism wins when it is applied effectively. We shoud not give up our principles because we lost this battle in the war. We need to get back on the offensive. Newt/Rice in '08.

"I know you feel bad. The RINOs are all gone. We lost a good conservative, Santorum. What's left of the GOP is solidly conservative. "

Correction
ALLEN ***IS*** A CONSERVATIVE DAMMIT!

The average Joe is not a partisan, and when they smell corruption they vote it out, thats how we got power to begin with.

like stuffing $90,000 into a freezer?

Allen's defeat almost certainly means he's out as a Presidential aspirant. I think Mark Sanford is going to run and the other guy in contention is Mitt Romney.

I know it hurts bad right now, but were stupid not to support McCain if Hillary looks like shes going to rock any conservative candidate we have, think how bad it will be 2 years from now when Hillary is in the White House and the Dems still have the House and Senete..At this point, I have to get behind a McCain run..I know there will be widespread oppostion to that, Im sorry in advance

Our buddy Joe Loserman will be first in line to vote for Harry Reid and lead the fight to have Rummy's head on a platter.

Harry Reid would like to thank all the RINOs on this board who worked to get him into power by donating time, money, and support to Al Gore's running mate instead of working their butts off to support our guys.

Good work, Loserman fans! We're have commies controlling the Senate, and YOUR buddy Loserman will put 'em in charge, but it's all OKAY cuz the Senator from CT will be only 90% liberal instead of 95% liberal and that will annoy some people from Daily Kos.

Great move!
