This is just crossing my desk now; nothing follows yet. According to some sources this is the subject of the noon presser.
If he weren't enjoying retirement so much....Norman Schwarzkopf. However, I don't think he would do it.
Hate to disagree but after what he did with the BRAC -- was part of three bases that disagreed with his decision and we won. They used flawed data to get them closed. He has been bad for Air Force Materiel Command and the AF and his decision to embed reporters is costing us right now in Iraq and has cost us.
I heard two people who just got back from Iraq last night and others who are blaming the media that Rumsfeld has refused to take out of the units for a lot of their problems in Iraq. Every step they take is detailed by a reporter with a mic shoved in their face and pictures streamed back to the US with spin.
As a loyal member of the AF community knowing what he has done to the AF in recent years, it was time for him to go and you will hear cheers throughout the AF as this gets out.
I would imagine I speak for the Navy air wings as well since he has also been after them.
Too many reporters on the field of battle with pictures streamed into our living rooms has cost us in Iraq and he is the one responsible.
Thanks for the clarification.
Oh yes it is almost assured that Iraq will end just like Vietname did years ago. Vietnamization then Iraqization now. Islam wins West loses. Look out Europe you are next and the USA will not get into it.
W needs to find his balls...this is looking bad.
I'm jumping in here rintense, can you explain your comment please for those of us unable to watch or listen? thank you!
Yes, but first, the 'evil' Rove must get President Bush to nominate someone the Democrats will object to, then he can nominate Lieberman.
God bless you, President Bush.
See, you gotta know how the AP scumballs work.
Someone needs to pull him away from the podium....this is really awful.
Now he's backtracking. This is a fiasco.
I'm just sick to my stomach.
Rummy has been required to put up with all sorts of sh!t from all sides.
What a sad day."
Me also. I am more bothered by this and the implications with the WOT than I am over the loss of the House seats.
No wonder the military industrial complex wanted Rummy out.
Great, now they can peddle more of their obsolete crap.
"I wonder if Rummy was force out or just decided to quit
Rummy isn't a quiter. He was forced out. Bush's conference makes that fairly clear.
"The hits just keep coming. Its safe to say that this time tommorow I couldn't imagine how horrible a 24 hour period this would be.
Don't let down your guard yet. There's more to come, I'm almost certain. It could even be Cheney next. I have no idea what would happen then.
Times are wierd.
I'll ditto this remark, tho it will be like post number 2 zillion.
Rummy should have quit/got the sack over a year ago.
Certainly after he moved the 172nd to Baghdad for 4 more months, after a year on station....that may have cost some Republicans in Alaska.....
An exCIA type seems to have the nod as a replacemant.
W needs to 'tag' Dick...get out there Mr. VP.
Best suggestion I've seen.
LOL .... he calls Nancy .. Congresswomen Pelosi
I totally agree. The 'Rumsfeld strategy' to conduct the Iraq campaign, i.e. blitzkrieg into Iraq with light army force (150,000-175,000 total force), was incapable of conducting an 'active' occupation force. We "PCd" the war effort, by short-changing our capabilities so as to "not offend" the ARABS, not attack and demolish the entire country, and incarcerate all the 'bad guys', and this is why we're in the mess we're in.
Many here can't see past the obvious. We all wanted the war. We all wanted to win. But it didnt happen to the successful conclusion that we all wanted, and it has been plainly obvious that we did not conduct and prosecute this was effort with the right approach.
After 3 years, the report card is in, and the Administration has gotten a "F"!
I hope Rummy write his memiors that be book to read LOL!
Rummy would be private citizen he could smack chat anybody if he wish
Heh. Interesting take, but if the Dems think they won because of their 'anti-war' stance (vs. opposition to Bush's dilatory prosecution), then I don't think so.
"Rummy isn't a quiter. He was forced out. Bush's conference makes that fairly clear.
I believe you are correct. It was a mistake, given the day it happened. Uffda!
Rumsfeld may have fallen on the sword, so to speak.
I hope extreemly myopic morons like you enjoy the F- you are about to get.
You're probably right.
He has been nothing short of magnificent under incredibly difficult circumstances, and I'm surprised to see you here piling on. It's pathetic.
"Rummy would be private citizen he could smack chat anybody if he wish
Is that English? Could you please restate it?
Why, Coop, why?....I don't understand the logic behind this decision.
Yes and no! It is true that Murtha, Kerry, Pelosi, Dean, etc, instigated this feeling of Vietnam, but the response from Pres. Bush, Sec. Rumsfeld, and the GOP has not been effective in countering that feeling.
Images resonate with the public and the MSM has been bombarding us with images of bombings and deaths in Iraq. We never responded with images of the rebuilding of Iraq. If the MSM didn't air it, the RNC certainly had enough money to buy air time.
She hasn't been voted in as Speaker yet.
I doubt he was planning it. We've heard he's offered to step down numerous times, and this time, Bush didn't stop him.
I am angry and sad that this man's honorable career and dedication to this country has ended like this, and that he will be written about (seeing the libs writes all the school books) as having "resigned in disgrace."
He deserves better than this.
So he fell on his sword for good of the party
Ditto! Bad timing GWB...bad timing!
At this point, the only thing that could really surprise me is if the President resigned. Cheney would make it interesting, but it wouldn't be a shocker. I think my shock is about used up.
I don't really care why...and I am sure you are right.
It just sucks, big time.
All we have heard from the Dems and Rinos is "get rid of Rummy"...for months.
So...what happens the day after the election??
Rummy is gone.
Who ever made the decision for whatever reason...I still HATE IT.
I am a RUMMY fan..
After the disappointment of last night..I just wish I didn't have to have another one so soon...(feeling sorry for myself..lol)
I agree. The name on the first soepena was going to say Rumsfeld. The man has got to be exausted. No sense in letting the Dems take swings at you for 2 years.
cutting losses and rearranging power structure
Boy, Bush isn't very loyal is he? For someone that demands it, he certainly doesn't return it. Rummy is/was/will always be terrific. I am soooooo disappointed in Bush.
You know, I see alot of recess appointments coming if the Senate stall appointments. This is because the appointments will be good until the end of W's term.
Under the constitution can the President recess appoint someone to VP if Cheney resigns.
If so, how about Rudy.
Totally dumbfounded here.
Keep thinking that. It's your type of bull-headedness-thinking that will keep us in that damn Iraq another 10 years, and cost us all 3 branches of government.
Bush is really out of it today! Enough already! What's going on with him?!
