Word on the street is that Bill Kristol is going to replace Rumsfeld. Or maybe James Webb.

"Let's turn this thing upside down and suck on it!"

/sarcasm off/

"Even he couldn't spin this election as twistedly as Bush just did..."

Six years of comments like that sure inspired a lot of people to vote yesterday.

What's wrong with you people?

Does it occur to none of you that Bush made this decision because he thought it was best for the country? What kind of cretin would he have to be to make a decision about replacing the Secretary of Defense in a time of war based on how it would affect his party's poll numbers, or how it would be perceived by his base, or how it might hurt the feelings of disappointed Republicans, or whether it would be perceived as a "win" for the Democrats.

This isn't a game. It's not a sport. Scoring points against the "opposing team" isn't what it's all about. How contemptible to think a decision like this - at a time like this - should hinge on whether it will be enjoyed by the opposition party.

Either you have total contempt for President Bush, or you need to reevaluate your own priorities.

There have been growing and persistent calls for Rumsfeld's resignation from all sides, including former military. However cynical I might be about Bush's motives in some situations, even I don't think the guy is going to replace the SOD for any reason other than he thinks it's the best thing for the country and the troops.

For crying out loud, the only thing that happened yesterday was that the opposition party gained in a midterm election. Happens all the time. But you people act like it's the end of the world as we know it. Start digging your bomb shelters! Buy duct tape! Move out of New York City! Jeezus.

There might be less whining and self pity around here if you all didn't respond to this as if your favorite team just lost the Super Bowl. You're just going to have to work more closely with the other half of America to get things done. That shouldn't be so difficult for any American.

Rumsfeld wasn't a deciding factor. It was those people who call themselves conservative who decided teaching the GOP a lesson was more important then our national defense. It was the people who call themselves conservative yet claim there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans. It was those people who put their single issue ahead of all else.

You might have an argument had Rummy stayed on. But he left anyways, so why lose on both accounts?

Surprised at your strong reaction against Bush. Comeon now - what are you going to do with all your toasters? :o)

Why work for the defeat of our nation in time of war for either account?

Defeat? You mean like Rummy was by not admitting fault?

Fault? Fault in what?

Secretary Rumsfeld prosecuted a war unlike any this nation has ever fought before. He fought that war at the pleasure of the President of the United States who obviously trusted the course Secretary Rumsfeld was pursuing.

Well that course is leading nowhere. Not enough soldiers, soldiers getting fed to the liberal dogs, via prosecutions for misconduct.

It's very strange how the troops themselves feel so differently. Stranger how so many people voiced their concern for our troops yesterday by turning control of the House and possibly the Senate to the Democrats.

The toasters remain...my faith does not. I suspect Rush was right: things are going to get worse before they get better. When the Pres begins pandering to the dems, I'm only going to be more disgusted.
