Gotta be .308Win not regular .308? (big price difference that I can see)

If it is time to bury them, it is time to dig them up and put them to use.

Hide like a good little chicken.

No thanks. We need to grow some spine, not give up the last of it.

Please define "regular" .308. When speaking of rifle calibers, all ".308" is ".308 Win."

Yep.

Stay safe. Rough waters ahead.

Well on this site http://www.davidsonsinc.com/consumers/subsites/dealer_home.asp?dealer_id=62832 you can search guns by caliber. It lists both .308Win and .308 so I assumed (I know) that they were different calibers.

TM got banned back in April for repeatedly daring to call the immigration appeaseniks what they are: Quislings. He also suggested that they wind up dancing at the end of ropes, which violated the "no violence" rule.

Of course, all of that won't matter when his predictions finally come to pass.

I don't know how big the battles can be at this point. Hopefully we can muster a filibuster in the Senate.

I just checked out the site you mentioned, and noted that when I entered "308", I got a list of rifles, and when I entered "308Win", I got three types of Hornady ammo, plus one rifle. It looks to me like their website's goofy.

But don't take it from me -- I would call them and ask what the difference is. It's their website. And please let me know what they say.

Different terminology, same round. They are all pretty much varients of your standard .30 cal round with various case lengths, bullet weights, and powder loads. .30, .30-06, .308, 7.62x54R, and the .30-30 are the more common types. Bullet weights range from 55gr .223 rounds in sabots, up to 220gr soft point jacketed slugs.

Depending on platform, the .30 cal round has an almost ideal profile for accuracy from 100-1000yrds with the .308Win bullet/powder/case combo being widely awknoledged as the most accurate.

OK, I understand the caliber (30) but will a .308 round fire out of a .308 Win rifle and vis versa? When I called Wain Roberts they said that they are different rounds and that certain guns called for either .308 or .308 Win.

.308 round fire out of a .308 Win rifle and vis versa?

Nope. Same round. The NATO designation is 7.62x51. Wikipedia article isn't bad.

You'll find some mil-sup brass that has a thicker base section on it and a slightly different neck sizing on it that could cause problems with finicky platforms that have been highly "dialed in". SAAMI spec gages will show the difference, but for a standrad hunting rifle, you'll never notice a difference. For most .308 battle rifles, like the FAL, it'll eat pretty much any .308 round you feed it.

If you are setting up a bench gun, sniper rig, or extreme accuracy rifle, you'll be sizing and trimming your own brass to the .0001+/-" anyway and the mil-surp thick brass can actually be re-loaded more times without failure of the case. If you are shooting factory brass, you won't get peak accuracy out of your set up. Again, assuming a ton of variables.

Google it up. There are tons of articles out there.

I used to sell surplus military rifles (Enfields and Mausers) at a local department store and we used to sell them for $25-$75 on average.

I wish I could go back and pick up more than the couple I did purchase back then, because they are now going for well over $100-$150 and the ones on the market now are generally pieces of junk.

OK. I just talked to Black Hills Ammo (mfg) http://www.black-hills.com/contact.htm

They said "NO DIFFERENCE". It is simply some MFGs (both gun and ammo) don't like to put "WIN" on their stuff.

Now, the NATO 762 can fire out of either but you should be careful of firing commercial .308 out of a Military rifle due to head space in the chamber.

Good morning.
"Thanks. Now I'll keep my eye out for a bargain or two!"

My grandson reminds me each morning that there is a gun show in Ukiah this weekend.

Our shows are small, but there are often good buys on 8mm and .303 British ammo.

I'll be looking for parts as much as anything, but I'll be keeping my eye open for long term storage goodies as well.

NEVER tell ANYBODY about the fact that you own a gun. For a lot of us that fact is written all over us, in the way we dress, what we drive and our life style in general. I suggest gun owners drive pastel colored Volkswagens with rainbow stickers, walk with a swish and talk more about baking, fashion and etc. Only our hairdressers would know for sure.

1) .30-06 is still the most common center fire cartridge sold in USA

2) A weapon (ie. a M-1 Garand) in .30-06 CAN FIRE .308 in a pinch WITH AN ADAPTER installed in the bore w/permatex. The reverse is of course not true. When raiding for Ammo post-apocalypse you can grab BOTH.

3) AP m2 in .30-06 is LEGAL TO OWN and NOT LEGALLY an ammor piercing round per ATF fed gov reg. Remember it is NOT ARMOR PIERCING per ATF.

4) No doubt, .308 win is an awseome cartridge and many VERY reliable weapons offered. If I wasn't an M-1 guy I'd have an ar-10, m-14, or FAL.

5) (shameless plug for Garand follows): the M-1 is legal to own in all fifty states and such horrid places as Chicago, San Fran, New York and even CANADA. It will likely be off the radar screen even for Nancy P. and Company. But apart from that, the CMP will still sell you one (with some miles on it) and plenty of ammo for a relative song.

And then buy a nice new SOCOM II from the folks in Geneseo, IL because they deserve our business before they are run out of Illinois along with Armalite by Gov BLAGO and Daley.

Agreed that the M1 Garand is one very capable and quite legal rifle. I own three. $:-)

Also agree on SA's SOCOM variant to their M1A; this is a worthy successor to it's Garand ancestor. I prefer the SOCOM I, personally -- the custom VLTOR forend on the II is too heavy and I don't need all the 1913 rails -- a forward mount for my Aimpoint Comp-M3 is all I need.
