I find it more interesting the Rummy was replaced with Gates, an ex-CIA chief

Yes. That does hold some interesting portents, doesn't it?

If we abandon Iraq like we did Viet Nam, no nation will ever again trust the United States to do what they say they will do.

A TV report on Ed Bradley tonight showed pictures of Vietnamese boat people and talked about how reporting on that situation effected him. Too bad he didn't remember that it was Democrats who stopped the funding of the VN war that led to the boat people's plight. I guess Dems don't care if it happens to another nation. This time, however, the enemy will not stay thousands of miles away inflicting suffering only on their own countrymen.

It's amazing, this turn of events.

I have a friend who's a self-proclaimed "moderate". He asked me what I thought of the development in the House and the Senate and what I make of it.

I had just been thinking about a discussion on FR and what my response would be if I was asked such a question.

I stated "In 1975 the House and the Senate Democrats had assumed a super majority due to the Watergate scandal. They decided that the war in Vietnam was a failure and cut off funding to our troops. There's a now famous photo of the evacuation of our embassy during the fall of Saigon (someone suggested 'Oh, the helicopter pho...' Yes, the helicopter photo evacuating the lucky few before the hoards of murders swept through the area. The killing field was estimated at 2 million dead. Today the Democrats are suggesting we do the same thing to the Iraqis. It's not a question of how I feel about the situation. How can the Democrats sleep at night knowing they are about to condemn millions upon millions to violent death by our absence?"

May not be 100% accurate, but I thought it was delivered beautifully. Too bad it was wasted on certain people who find themselves baffled operating a tube of toothpaste. Some got it, though. Felt really good that someone gave me a chance to vent. Don't have to be angry about it, there's constructive ways to tell people who the Dims are.

The Colonel ... noted that General Eric Shinseki, the former US Army Chief of Staff, was sacked for demanding more troops...

That is complete and utter bullshit and the Colonel knows it. And if he doesn't, he shouldn't be a Colonel.

  1. Shinseki, the Klintoon kneepad suck up, affirmative action promoted 'General' wasn't 'sacked'.
  2. But he should have been "sacked" the day Rummy was confirmed. But Rummy let him serve out his term until retirement.
  3. He, that pos 'general', didn't 'demand' anything. In a congressional hearing - right before he retired - he said in his opinion it would take 600,000 troops to 'win in Iraq'. This was BEFORE the war even started.
  4. While Shinseki was still there, he did everything he could to f*ck over undermine Dubya and Rummy - and the prick did it publicly.

Under Klintoon, Shinseki went from Two Stars (Major General), to Four Stars (General) in eighteen months. This promotion time-line for a flag officer is unheard of in peace time. The SOB was rewarded by Willard for turning the Army into a freaking social engineering study group.

With Rummy gone, and President Bush apparently more than willing to kiss up to the Dems, I think the troops have every right to feel demoralized.

I don't know if this was your intent or not, but don't blame Bush for Rumsfeld leaving. I think this was the plan all along in case Dems. took control of Congress because Rumsfeld knew he'd be subpoenaed constantly if these beasts took control and would be unable to do an effective job. He'd be spending all his time answering to Congress and not able to run the Pentagon without Carl Levin breathing down his neck. I think it was likely his idea to leave as a result.

But don't bet on Bush kissing up to the Dems. Much of what he's saying is p.r. to look like a graceful loser. The fight against these people will come later. But sometimes you have to snatch a small moral victory from the jaws of defeat by looking like a big man ready to take your lumps and to accept your losses. I think Bush looked good doing that. When you establish yourself as having been willing to work with the opposition, it A) Forces them to have to respond in kind and B) gives you much more credibility later on when they turn on the president and try to obstruct everything he does. Then he can with legitimacy tell Americans "Hey, I tried! But this is the Congress you saddled me with!"

God Bless our troops and keep them safe. Never have I been so afraid for them. They will be targets now, more than ever. The American people will not put up with many more deaths and injuries. The terrorists and their enablers here know that....

You are right. There continues to be examples of British newspapers picking up stories that paint Democrats in a less than favorable light that never see the light of day here in the States. The fact is, the dark specter of single-viewpoint journalism has fallen upon the American media. They will never once look at this new Congress with a critical eye, and all the good that occurs from January 2007 on will be credited to them by the same.

The Democrats have been trying to label Iraq "Vietnam" since the very beginning. To make their characterization true, they must devise the pull out, reminiscent of Saigon. The final straw will be when they label all of the brave men and women "baby killers". The Democrats toy with world events, but they never stray far from their weak, infantile, pacifist and un-American roots.

I agree about your assesment of Shinseki.... He was an boot licker. Anybody that did well under Clinton was vetted and had to go along with a lot of BS. In other words you were either with them or against them..... bwahahahhaaa

Yep, it's the squishy middle, always the squishy middle. We have a group here that cannot stand the slightest criticism of this administration and would like to believe the ones who don't fall in line are the culprits, but when push comes to shove, I would bet most here voted, and voted Republican. The non-voters and 3rd party, or even dem voters here, comprise an insignificant percentage IMO.

The squishy middle however has to be wooed and won over months in advance of the election, and we still end up sweating over them until they push the vote button.

This then, my lords and gentlemen, is the message which we send forth today to all states and nations, bound or free, to all the men in all the lands who care for freedom's cause. To our Allies and well-wishers in Europe, to our American friends and helpers drawing ever closer in their might across the ocean, this is the message-lift up your hearts, all will come right. Out of depths of sorrow and sacrifice will be born again the glory of mankind. - Winston Churchill, 1941

Regards, Ivan

Nothing a military coup couldn't fix. An added bonus would be removing many of the foreign agents and communists from the media, judiciary, Congress and various government agencies. That would go a long way towards restoring the Constitution and a free market economy as the foundation of American society.
