Who the hell is Haggard?

Some queer preacher...He is different that Barney Frank?

I don't get it.

I never heard of him either. From what I've read about him, he falls into the "religious Left" camp, the camp of Christian Socialists.

Never forget that Jimmy Carter calls himself an Evangelical.

I agree completely! I also think he's on the right track to straightening himself out ...

I was just commenting that there appeared to be a "slippery slope" when he started aligning himself with philosophies that are more world driven than Biblically driven.

I agree that he is looking for forgiveness of his congregation, and seems to be doing it from the right perspective.

Start out preachin' Green, ended up not smoking crack and not having gay sex with a male prostitute.

See what environmentalism does to you?

His church's reaction is interesting too.

Well, what would you tell your children about Pastor Ted if you attended New Life Church? The Rocky Mountain News reports that the church has given out a sheet of talking points for parents about the disappearance of "Pastor Ted". They are to tell their children that Pastor Ted loves Jesus very, very much and that he made a mistake and that while he is spending time with Jesus, Pastor Ross will be pastor. (Is this a hint of a possible return to action for Pastor Ted?) You will note that the term "mistake" is repetedly used. A mistake is a typo on a letter. A mistake is to forget a dental appointment or to accidentally drive over your child's bicycle while exiting the garage. A mistake is not visiting a gay prostitute and buying crystal meth. That would be sin.
So all that really happened is that Pastor Ted has gone to spend more time with Jesus. You have to wonder how many consultants and special ministries people got together to dream that one up.

As a papist it is my understanding...

Baptist here. But something about the matter of fact way you phrased that is downright humorous. And I don't mean anything unpleasant by that. But some folks might have to scurry for their dictionaries to look up papist.

FRegards.

Folks are generally against abortion, and believe it should be generally illegal, with exceptions. Folks are generally against homosexual marriage, and believe it should be illegal, but that homosexuals should be able to order their lives according to alternative legal regimes.

Yeah, but they say on polls they'll vote down gay marriage and they'll almost all vote that way. But on pro-life, they say they're pro-life but they won't quite go for a true pro-life agenda or candidates.

Sometimes what people say to a poll about they want is an ideal, not something they actually support when you come down to voting for it or for candidates that support it.

That's a bunch o' hooey. Christians put their faith in Christ, b/c we know people are going to fail. The Haggard controversy did not cause people to change their values systems.

If evangelicals left the party, we would win.

If gun lovers left the party, we would win.

If Conservative idealogues left the party, we would win.

If libertarians left the party, we would win.

If neocons left the party, we would win.

Would the last one left please turn off the lights?

I'm not an evangelical but I live in the Bible Belt. I have one friend who has heard of him, she used to live in CO and has friends who attend his church. She says her friends in CO are devastated.
I don't think he lost the Republicans the election, but I guess he's someone else, (sure are a bunch of them) to blame when looking to place blame.

Wow, seems like everybody under the sun is to blame for Tuesday.
Ted Haggard? That little scumbag was but a pimple on a tick's ass. Totally insignificant.

wrong, fundamentalists are evangelicals with a chip on their shoulders, but I'll agree Haggard was no fundamentalist. I hadn't read last weekend that he was the one responsible for the anti-global warming claptrap.

Basically, being a fundamentalist or evangelical Christian is not tied to any denomination.

Fundamentalist Christianity simply means that the belief is based wholly on the Bible.

An evangelical Christian is a disciple of Christ who goes out to spread the Good News.

I never heard of Haggard either, but there's a lot of meat in the article.

For a Frightmare, read the Earth Charter at this link:
http://www.earthcharterusa.org/earth_charter.html

It starts out fairly benign, and becomes your worst commie nightmare by the end. Look for its plans for the military. Try a Google search of Earth Charter, or Earth Charter + Gorbachev.

This document was handed to my college student daughter in political science class. Earth Charter backers plan to peddle it through schools and churches.

Tonight I was belatedly reading the election week edition of Newsweek, "The Politics of Jesus" (Sex vs. Social Justice: Evangelicals at a Crossroads). If I can make the leap that Newsweek runs things election week that will help liberals, it seems clear that liberals are trying to triangulate religion any way they can. An article, "A New Social Gospel," by former Bush speechwriter Michael Gerson, speaks of the global focus of the new evangelicalism, and its solidarity with the poor and pursuit of the common good.

My Methodist congregation, with hopes of expanding its membership, went through Rick Warren's Purpose Driven program. The sermons changed from Biblically based lessons to social justice themes. Socially relevant "hymns" are being substituted for scripture-based hymnal songs. Saturday night, the church held a viewing of "An Inconvenient Truth," because as Christians we shouldn't ruin our earth (or something). Membership, by the way, is down by about 25%.

We're being co-opted, folks. Christians are an obvious target because of their influence in the 2000 and 2004 outcomes. Say the right buzzwords and a few trusting souls will listen, or get mad and stay home. Hardly matters which.

If it hadn't been Ted Haggard being exposed it would have been someone else. The Democrats were going to win, and they didn't care what they had to do to insure a win nor will they care what they have to do to maintain power. . . . and then . . enter Hillary, power and control freak extraordinaire . . .

If this news had broken a couple of days after the election it would not have been blown up to the degree it was just prior to the election by the 'agenda media'.
