It almost makes you wish we had the power to form a new, conservative party that the real conservatives could all join and bring sanity back to DC.

Here's why old Mel got the White House nod.... Voted in favor of bill to increase immigration and grant amnesty to illegal aliens in 2006.

Yep, that's the reason. Pretty hard to swallow this one.

Thanks..according to your post #40..the WH extended the offer..doesn't jibe with your explanation, unless all the state chairs are willing to defer to the WH..

What the heck, the Dummiecrats won the election -- in the interest of "getting along", why didn't they just go all the way and appoint a Democrat to head the RNC??

Melquiades “Mel” Rafael Martinez was sworn in as Florida’s thirty-third United States Senator on January 4, 2005 and took his place in the history books as the first Cuban-American to serve in the U.S. Senate.

--

Mel packs a 96% ACU Ratings after 1 year or so in office.. he just got there...

hmmm,, he could step down and have the gub appoint Katherine Harris as his replacement being (if the law allows or dictates it is at the Gub's doiscretion) as this is no minor undertaking at this point in the party's future and how it will either come back strong or slide off into the weeds of socialism for good. jmo

No. Most people here have a problem with his lack of charisma and pro-amnesty stance. Geez, reverse racism.

Bush's plan is to pass the amnesty bill. He will stop at nothing to do this. MArtinez is 100% pro-amnesty.

JD Hayworth does not fit into this plan.

Sent my Senator Mel an email during the immigration debate.
Obviously sent back a canned reply. My email detailed my issues, His email used the talking points of the MSM.
And we also have 'Lost in Space" Nelson, some representative government, a bootlicker, and an idiot ( assign appropriate name to appropriate candidate

I think I was wrong about elected officials. In our State the elected officials sit on the State Committee but the following says who is on the National Committee:

Organization of the
Republican National Committee

The Republican National Committee shall have the general management of the Republican Party, subject to direction from the national convention. The members of the Republican National Committee shall consist of one (1) national committeeman and one (1) national committeewoman from, and the chairman of the state Republican Party of, each state. For the purposes of this rule and all other rules, the definition of “state” or “states” shall be that as defined in Rule No. 26.

I think he is a pro-amnesty moderate with an Hispanic surname. He's the guy the Bushes pushed for the Senatorial seat Harris originally wanted and then backed off of.

If its true, I'm NOT happy.

If the Republican Party leadership interprets what happened on election day as an endorsement of liberalism, they missed the message and will loose their conservative base along with a good number of indepedent Americans

Okay, who do I start emailing to express my "displeasure"?

E-mail your local elections board. Request a registration card and re-register as anything but a Republican.

Seriously.

And tell your friends.

If they see enough people doing that, they'll likely figure it out.

If the Republicans move LEFT in 2008, i.e. Giuliani or McCain, its time.

Its time for conservatives to LEAVE the Republican Party en masse and see how many votes they can get by being Democrat Light.

If the party is going to get re-energized, it is going to need a strong leader to win the nomination (not any of the current front runners). That person is going to very quickly have to take charge and the first order of business will be forcing out the "old guard", including the new head of the RNC. We'll immediately know if the titular head of the party has what it takes to lead us from the wilderness.

I envision a leader who is capable of forming alliances with current and new congressional candidates who are willing to run to the right with pride. Again, it ain't going to be anyone whom is being spoken about in the current national discussion.

I agree that we need a full-time RNC chairman. I think that the party chairman should be someone who has been a state party chairman and has been a U.S. senator, U.S. rep., or governor. Asa Hutchinson would be a great choice. He was Chairman of the Arkansas GOP, 1993-'97; U.S. Rep., 1997-2001; Director of the DEA, 2001-'03; and Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security for Border Security, 2003-'05. Last week, he ran for governor of Arkansas and lost, so he's unemployed.
