At this stage in the run-up to the primaries in 16 months, this is a place-holder appointment. As the convention shakes out, the nominee will put his man in place for the run. Martinez is blah enough that no one (Mitt, Rudy, McCainiac) was against him.

It's not just his political views. He makes Bob Woodward look like the life of the party. I hope people are right that this is a very temporary choice.

...angry white Southern married Christians.

Only one of these adj/nouns describe me...and yet I vote a straight R ticket.

I oppose Martinez for one reason only, he does not have the energy, charm, personality, polish, demeanor, nor confidence to do for the RNC that that has to be done for 2008. I thought Steele had all those qualities I find lacking in Mel. MHO.

The race card gets old. Try pulling a different one out of the deck.

It's all so bizarre. The Repubs better realize they are doing precisely the opposite of what they should.

Those are excellent points. Operation Peter Pan, IIRC. I didn't look at site. That said - he better be able to go toe to toe with wacky Dean, if Dean will ver show up.

"His ACU rating in 2005 was a perfect 100%."

So? I guess their standards are different than mine. Supporting amnesty for illegals (with all the attendant tax $$$), makes you a big govt. subsidizer, in my book. Not allowing us to drill off Florida, but standing around with your finger up your nose as china and cuba do, makes one a worthless liberal, in spite of the acu rating.

Shhh. They picked someone with a Spanish name...

I don't know if you are tossing out the race card because you are trying to be funny or you are trying to be profound...you've fallen flat whichever the case may be.

Oh yea, the no drilling anywhere near Florida Martinez.

Okay, I have a question. How can you get a perfect ACU rating yet still oppose offshore drilling for oil or gas?

I am anti-illegal immigration, but I agree with the reasons you stated regarding his appointment.

The next General Election isn't until 2008 so she'd have the seat for two years. It would drive the libs stark raving mad and throw gasoline on what will already be a wildfire when it comes to the '08 Presidential. The thing is, would Jeb want to go out that way? I don't think so. It would be a delicious back-atcha but too volatile politically.

"GWB is hellbent on amnesty. He knew the plan would infuriate conservatives in a mid-term election year, but he went full-speed ahead."

Bush probably knows that it will be largely the catholic mexican that will be fighting the muslim hordes in the not so far future. Indian will also assist if they don't get nuked by Pakistan. Sides will be drawn by religiously, and the hispanic culture is uniquely Christian based.

I don't think the ACU rating takes in account positions on drilling per say but his position on off shore drilling 100 miles from the shores of Florida was based on the ultra-liberal environmental position so the answer to your question is I have no clue how he got that rating. I don't have a big concern with him other than when we needed energy assistance by domestic supplies he was the obstructionist.
