In a surprising move yesterday, Christopher Dodd (D-CT) announced that he would introduce legislation to guarantee US Constitutional Rights to enemy combatants, and would seek to repeal portions of the recently enacted Military Commissions Act.
source: "It's clear the people who perpetrated these horrendous crimes against our country and our people have no moral compass and deserve to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But in taking away their legal rights, the rights first codified in our country's Constitution, we're taking away our own moral compass, as well."
If Dodd believes that last week's election was a mandate for this radical approach to dealing with enemy combatants, then the next two years may provide entertainment from DC not seen in a long time.

the funny thing is, this type of folderal has been coming out of their mouths for the past 6 years, and they keep getting a pass from the dinosaur media. If the people of CT believed that terrorists deserved Constitutional rights, then Lieberman wouldn't have won.
The Dems are setting themselves up to be the minority party once again come 2008.
I wouldn't think that it would even make it out of committee, but you ought to see how the lefty blogs are playing this up. Dodd will restore habeas corpus, and other such nonsense.

The lefty blogs are full of people that have never seen their party in power since they've been paying attention. They're about to get a rude awakening as to what that means.
The Dems are also coming back to "power" for the first time in the age of the New Media. They've never had to deal with their words being broadcast for the world to hear in the matter of minutes.

Dodd is acting like he's still on the back-bench, hurling firebombs at Bush and the Republicans. I think I might go over and cache his website before he decides he's stepped in poo with this one, and decides to take it down.
Dodd is a typical leftist. He wants to grant rights to foreign terrorists and war criminals even as he wants to take away the Second Amendment rights of citizens.
Our guys and gals over there read the headlines, too. I pray that they can at least look at sites like FR and know that the whole world hasn't gone crazy

If Amendment XIV gave us those rights, how does this clown Dodd think he can establish those rights for his terrorist buddies without a Constitutional amendment?
Section 8 of the Constitution grants the Senate some power but only as shown
To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;
They can make the rule concerning the capture but I don't see where the Senate gets to grant "constitutional Rights" to scum.
As far as their "Moral Compass" and prosecuting them, the best solution is found in this basic instruction:
