Dodd Bill May Be First Candidate for Bush Veto

In a surprising move yesterday, Christopher Dodd (D-CT) announced that he would introduce legislation to guarantee US Constitutional Rights to enemy combatants, and would seek to repeal portions of the recently enacted Military Commissions Act.

source: "It's clear the people who perpetrated these horrendous crimes against our country and our people have no moral compass and deserve to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But in taking away their legal rights, the rights first codified in our country's Constitution, we're taking away our own moral compass, as well."

If Dodd believes that last week's election was a mandate for this radical approach to dealing with enemy combatants, then the next two years may provide entertainment from DC not seen in a long time.

Dodd and the Dims wanna give the al queda types an even quicker path to citizenship than the illegal immigrants might get.

Will he move to give the terrorists the right to vote, and sex change operations while incarcerated?

Let him and Pelosi and all the loons have the bully pulpit, so that all of America may see how treasonous and insance they are.

This type of over-reaching is just what is needed to draw the sharp distinction that is needed.
Plus, we need Republicans who don't want to spend so much of the taxpayers money, but that's another story for another day.

the funny thing is, this type of folderal has been coming out of their mouths for the past 6 years, and they keep getting a pass from the dinosaur media. If the people of CT believed that terrorists deserved Constitutional rights, then Lieberman wouldn't have won.

The lefty blogs are full of people that have never seen their party in power since they've been paying attention. They're about to get a rude awakening as to what that means.

The Dems are also coming back to "power" for the first time in the age of the New Media. They've never had to deal with their words being broadcast for the world to hear in the matter of minutes.

Amendment XIV - Citizenship Rights. Ratified 7/9/1868. Note History

1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

If Amendment XIV gave us those rights, how does this clown Dodd think he can establish those rights for his terrorist buddies without a Constitutional amendment?

Section 8 of the Constitution grants the Senate some power but only as shown

To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

They can make the rule concerning the capture but I don't see where the Senate gets to grant "constitutional Rights" to scum.

As far as their "Moral Compass" and prosecuting them, the best solution is found in this basic instruction:

BINGO. Let them fight this war on their terms: the "Blue Dogs" vs. the REAL dems. Ultimately, the MSM has to choose a side. It's up to us to fight for the next hill while they jerk around.

Hell, even your most jaded LA Times editorial board might catch a clue.

Frankly, had this past election been "about the war", we'd have done better, I'm convinced.

You're spot on about Lieberman: even friggin Connecticut, electing a nominal Independent, knows what's at stake.
