American Indian Tribe Bans Westboro Hate Cult From Protesting Soldier’s Funeral
Stop The ACLU ^ | 2-Dec-06 | John Stephenson

Posted on 12/02/2006 12:54:57 PM PST by Jay777

CNN

A church group that protests at military funerals around the country will be barred from services for an American Indian soldier on a reservation, tribal officials say.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, planned to demonstrate at National Guard Cpl. Nathan Goodiron's funeral on Saturday at the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.

Church members say the deaths of soldiers are punishment from God for the country's tolerance of homosexuals.

Tribal leaders passed a resolution Friday that prohibits the group from protesting on the reservation, said Marcus Wells Jr., chairman of the Three Affiliated Tribes.

"We will not tolerate any harassment that is intended to provoke ill feelings and violence," he said.

Provoke violence? You mean like this video where they are running for their life? Yes, preaching hate does seem to provoke hate in return. Yes, this group's speech does provoke violence, and for that reason should be treated differently than other free speech in my opinion. Of course groups like the ACLU don't buy that argument. It would be a different story if they were pro-life demonstrators outside an abortion clinic though.

I wonder if there are any blondes or red heads in the Westboro Baptist Church congregation who would make especially prized scalps?

Good for the Three Affiliated Tribes.

I'm glad to see, too, that the Westboro group is rightly labeled a 'Hate Cult'.

"How is that the MSM keep calling the whackjobs at WBC a "Church"?"

As I am sure we are all aware, it serves their purposes to call these sinister cultists a church. By and large, most all religions who have legitimate churches, DO NOT teach, advocate, or tolerate hate of anyone. Much less use it as a religious ideology. The old media knows this, so they use this group to dispel that knowledge.

...Cpl. Nathan Goodiron, 25, of Mandaree, known on the reservation as Young Eagle, was killed Thanksgiving Day in Afghanistan when a grenade struck his vehicle while he was on patrol. He was a member of the 1st Battalion of the North Dakota National Guard's 188th Air Defense Artillery.

American and tribal flags are being flown at half staff on the reservation to honor Goodiron.

Go in peace, Young Eagle. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice.

No, I appreciate grammar police.

Don't misunderstand me; I appreciate having an error pointed out to me privately, or quietly, at the very least.

The grammar police whom I mean are those who wish to make no contribution to a topic per se, but only make posts publicly pointing out--in some cases, even ridiculing--the grammar or spelling errors of posts; or worse, other, contributing, posters.

Ohhhhh; suddenly it dawns! Unclear writing; 250 word penalty essay.

Improper use of a pronoun, without clearly inserting the referent first, causing confusion with the previous subject.

"They" in the second paragraph was supposed to refer back to the Phelps group in the article, not 'the grammar police' in my first paragraph. Mea culpa.

I wonder if the poster was actually native american.

You will see in most cases that the native americans are not the ones with the problems with native american named mountains an rivers, mexicans do not have a problem with the cartoon caracter "speedy gonzales", Jews have no problem with the Nativity Scene and Buddists have no problem with the Ten Commandments.

In most cases they are white liberal lawyers out to make a buck.

It's a shame

Seeing as how Indian land is considered to be a distinct nation (but I don't believe autonomous), I'd say that if the west-babblers want to take it to court, it's going to get very interesting...

Indian reservations are considered 'sovereign nations' and technically, non Indians have NO legal right to be there. They fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government. (Bureau of Indian Affairs) Crimes on the reservations are all investigated by the FBI. IF that bunch of sickos goes on after they have been banned, they will be looking at federal charges. I hope they do. They could find out what it's like to be held 'incommunicado.' IOW, they don't have to let them make a phone call for 3 days if they don't want to. LOL I live a few miles from the largest Indian reservation in the country, (Navajo) and I know how these things work.

Some collectors from GMAC finance company went on the rez to repossess a car and the Indian who owned it called the police after they took the car and left. The Navajo tribal police caught them before they got off the rez. They arrested them and put them in jail with no phone calls for 3 days. They had a massive man hunt out looking for them when they didn't show back up in Albuquerque by Sunday. They were locked up and spent the weekend in jail. GMAC changed their policy after that. In fact, it started a chain reaction with creditors. LOL I wouldn't let any of my collectors go on the rez after that either. I handled all the repossessions myself.

What surprised me about the WBC...is that during Thanksgiving week...with the bus accident in Huntsville, Alabama...where four young teenage black girls died...the WBC decided to show up at one of the funerals. Being from the local area and visiting relatives...I could not believe that the WBC would be that stupid and some locals made heavy threats about what they would do to the WBC members. In the end...the cops did allow one area for them to gather and demonstrate...to stay legal and avoid court actions. Then at the last minute as the funeral episode was to begin...the cops pulled up a couple of buses and blocked out the view of the WBC completely. If you were on the main road...you would have never noticed these idiots. The local media...on their own...volunteered not to take any video of the entire action or mention anything on the nightly news.

One would think that all of these travels....are demanding a heck of alot of cash. By the time you figure gas and travel costs...they have to be spending well over $150k per year to make the church travels. I know they only have around 300 members...so it makes me wonder where their cash bucket comes from.

They protested at the funerals of bus accident victims? What is their reason for that?- God hates buses? These people need to be locked up in a mental institution.

Either that, or, they are a case study of demonic possession. I wonder what would happen if someone tried an Exorcism on them? Maybe Christians should get together and plan a trip to their "church"-Cast out their demons.

What the hell is wrong with these people!?! If they want to protest homosexual tolerance, they should go to San Francisco or Broadway, not military funerals. All they're doing is making Baptist churches, and Christians in general, look bad.

While they are most likely demon possessed, they don't appear to be too stupid. They know they're safer at military funerals than in SF of any other homo enclave. I guess that also makes them cowards, too. They can claim all they want that they're suffering for the Lord and being persecuted when other regular people smash in a car window because they've been rude, obnoxious idiots but that's not being persecuted for righteousness sake. If they're so thrilled to be persecuted, why don't they go where it'd be legitimate?

Yup. That was cool. I really like the broken down bus scenario.

I just wish the media would police itself better and not report on stuff so inflammatory (even thought I enjoyed the video). This is not news and the media is not obligated to report EVERY single little event that happens in the whole world; I mean, they didn't cover the Christmas tree lighting in our little town, for example. They make the decision on what to cover and what not to cover. They don't have to do this. They're just giving these guys all kinds of free publicity and that's encouraging them to do it all the more. If everyone totally ignored these creeps, I think they'd eventually get the message and quit. They're just doing it for the show and the media is handing them what they want on a silver platter.

It's such BS to do that to a creditor. If an Indian takes on the obligation off the rez, then the council should recognize the creditor's rights. This is just like a felon fleeing to Mexico.

Then skins (Native Americans/Indians) wonder why people are leery about lending &/or selling to Indians on credit.

Wonder if anyone feels that this is discriminatory?

Phelps has run in various Kansas Democratic Party primaries in Kansas five times, but has never won. These included races for governor in 1990, 1994, and 1998, receiving about 15% of the vote in 1998...
