I hope there are no loopholes. A city as huge and dense as NY will start missing things like this real fast.

(cheers at the thought) Maybe there will be a rebellion!

It is not as if there are substitutes for trans fats.
Lard. But that's backwards, transfats were the substitute for that.

So this is what... an effort to restore the monopoly held by Ted Kennedy and Michael Moore?

Colored wax passed as chocolate...

I'm pretty sure that persisted into the early 70's in the Midwest, based on personal experience. ;)

Did Chicago already repeal the fois gras ban? Hadn't heard that.Glory Alleluia if they did. But alas, NYC's Nanny Gestapo is also exploring the idea of enacting the F.G. ban in their city.

I don't eat fois & avoid transfats like the plague, but all these raving lunatics who want to dictate to their fellow citizens what they can & cannot put into their mouths should start first by observing another ban themselves - the one against smoking crack!These arrogant, self-righteous twits' brains have obviously already taken an extended dip in the deep-fryer.

On the bright side, all this is making a lot of erstwhile bleeding heart liberals who also happen to be foodies begin to realize the downside to having supported the expansion of government intrusion into everyone else's lives all these years.Lotsa chefs out there are suddenly reading up on libertarian philosophy these days, now that it's their ox (next on the list?) being gored, lol!

This will save lives, undoubtedly.

This won't save one life let alone many. It will however, embolden the nanny staters to continue taking away our freedom to choose. Sheeple = enablers.

--This will save lives, undoubtedly. However there needs to be a way to opt out, perhaps with a desclaimer.--

I doubt it. People who eat out too much and people who eat out and eat fast foods too much are not doing their health any good anyway unless they are very careful about what they eat when they eat out. I doubt a little trans-fat is going to be harmful..might even be good for you so banning it from restaurants won't benefit much because those who care about what they eat aren't eating it anyway. Those who don't care will still suffer from what they eat.

Next there will be knock raids on homes where illegal trans fat is suspected of being sold or consumed.

If donuts are cooked in trans-fats enforcement could be a real problem.

Yep, when ever I talked to a smoking Nazi, I always asked them if they had the guy arrested.

SN: What guy?

ME: The guy that put a gun to your head and forced you to go into a bar/restaurant that had smoking.

SN: :: blank stare ::

ME: Or was it just more convenient to have the state come in and make the decisions for you, never mind that market forces would have been brought to bear, if you and other like minded people had boycotted establishments that didn't cater to your needs.

SN: :: blank stare ::

I eat trans-fatty foods whenever I want, they've never hurt me.

Can you imagine either posing for, or taking this photo.

I get nauseous just posting it.

Can't imagine what it's like looking at it around lunchtime.
