I don't see how far the Dems can go with this, since it has always been illegal to hire illegals (duh!)... unless they plan on grandstanding. It has always been up to the President to enforce the law, and as we've seen over the past 6 years, Bush has done pitifully little to prosecute businesses that hire illegals.

This is nothing but a rhetorical olive branch to the Big Unions. The Democrats have a delicate balancing act between their acceptance of illegal immigration, and their partnership with Big Unions. You'd think that labor unions would be all in favor of employer sanctions to prevent the hiring of cheap competition, and that the Dems would be following the direction from labor unions.

In looking over the names of Senators posted on FR who voted against that horrific immigration bill, I see only 4 Democrats listed - Byrd, Doran, Nelson, and Stabenow.
