Carter: Universities blocked book promo
JTA ^ | December 9, 2006

Posted on 12/09/2006 2:49:04 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

Jimmy Carter said universities with substantial Jewish enrollment have blocked him from discussing his book “Palestine: Peace not Apartheid.”

“My most troubling experience has been the rejection of my offers to speak, for free, about the book on university campuses with high Jewish enrollment and to answer questions from students and professors,” Carter said in an Op-Ed published Friday in the Los Angeles Times. The former U.S. president made a similar charge in a C-Span interview earlier this week; asked to elaborate, he would not name the universities, except to say he was invited by individual professors, but turned down by the universities’ leadership.

Carter’s book, which blames most of the impasse in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks on Israel’s settlement policy, is a New York Times No. 1 bestseller, and he has promoted it in multiple media appearances.

Most American Jews will ignore the warning signs because he is a Democrat. What can be done ?

You can get plenty of whining when The Worst President Ever gets cut off
from some of his oxygen (big public-speaking fees/honorarium and free
advertizing for his propaganda books).

I was ticked at BookTV (CSpan2 weekends) giving this old fool about 3 hours
of free publicity last weekend.
But having one phone-caller tell him what he is was almost worth it.

(even if I have misgivings about "respect for the office, not the man")

The book tour should be called "The Unveiling of the Real Honest Jimmy"

Here's a link to Carter's op ed:

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-carter8dec08,0,7544738.story?coll=la-opinion-center

"This reluctance to criticize any policies of the Israeli government is because of the extraordinary lobbying efforts of the American-Israel Political Action Committee and the absence of any significant contrary voices."

"The book describes the abominable oppression and persecution in the occupied Palestinian territories, with a rigid system of required passes and strict segregation between Palestine's citizens and Jewish settlers in the West Bank. An enormous imprisonment wall is now under construction, snaking through what is left of Palestine to encompass more and more land for Israeli settlers. In many ways, this is more oppressive than what blacks lived under in South Africa during apartheid. I have made it clear that the motivation is not racism but the desire of a minority of Israelis to confiscate and colonize choice sites in Palestine, and then to forcefully suppress any objections from the displaced citizens."

Carter’s book, which blames most of the impasse in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks on Israel’s settlement policy

The fact that Muslims want to wipe every Jew (and everyone else for that matter) off the face of the earth has nothing to do with it. F-ing idiot.

Carter should be required to renounce the title, as it is a false comparison to South Africa prior to Reagan's success there and because it demonizes Israel and inspires that nation's enemies.

Ford did not forsee what he would turn into. At the time Ford picked him he was known as a moderate conservative. In his early days as a SC justice Stephens voted to bring back capital punishment and voted against affirmative action. It's later he turned to the dark liberal side. It turned out with hindsight to have been a bad pick, yes.

Oh please. What university does NOT have a substantial Jewish population?? All it is is that NO ONE wants to hear him speak. What, does he only offer his spew at "Jewish" universities???? Does he check the enrollment first??
Ask him why he's offering to speak for free at such places?? It's because he's an ugly old anti-semite, that's why.
(ugly inside, and out)
Adolf Carter

Hitler probably had the same problem with "Mein Kampf"...

Don't know what is the proper tactic here

Tell him to stay away

or

Let him come and then in an honest debate have somebody who has researched all the lies etc etc in his book point them out
item by item and make a fool out of him

I think the second approach might be the better way

It is always better to have as many people know the facts and truth as possible

We would not be in our current war if Carter had not been elected.

I don't suppose the press would cover it, but I'd love to see a debate between Jimmuh and that professor who just severed his ties with him because he said that he couldn't work any longer for a lying, anti-semitic plagiarizer.

That would be interesting. The maybe he could debate someone like Ann Coulter over his contributions to making Iran such a contributor to world peace.

Yep. At least Ford did no harm like the doctor's creed.

He did a plenty people just have short memories. Carter and Ford were politically more or less the same. Ford was the one who started us on a hands off policy on such thugs as Amin, Khomeini, Arafat, Qaddafi, Saddam, and others. It was his E.O. which put a prohibition against covert ops resulting in assassination against foreign heads of state. The result was thugs leaders knew it was safe to sponsor terrorist cells after that.

I never thought I would think Bill Clinton was a better ex-President than anyone. I was wrong.

Carter was a swine while he was in office and now he's a swine out of office.
