Steelers' Porter Fined For Using Gay Slur

Pittsburgh Steelers' linebacker Joey Porter was fined $10,000 by the NFL on Thursday for a gay slur he made towards Cleveland Browns' tight end Kellen Winslow after the game on Thursday.

During the game, Winslow was flagged for a personal foul for hitting Steelers linebacker James Farrior after a play. In a post-game interview, Porter referred to Winslow with a derogatory word used to describe homosexuals.

On Tuesday, Porter apologized, saying he didn't intend to offend anyone but Winslow.

"I guess, how we used that word freely, me using it growing up, I didn't think anything of it," Porter said on Tuesday. "I apologize to anyone I offended. I didn't mean to offend nobody but Kellen Winslow."

This was Porter's second fine of the season. During a game against the Atlanta Falcons in October, Porter was fined $15,000 for comments he made to an official.

There is no word on whether Porter will appeal the fine.

I used to work with an old Englishman who'd lived much of his life in Australia and South Africa, so I don't know where this term originates....but if he'd go to the bakery down the street for warm pastries, he'd (seriously and cluelessly) say he was going out for "a hot blow job".

What Porter said about Winslow was slander, at worst. But to fine him for using "fag"? C'mon! Homosexual sodomy is weird, sick and abnormal. No amount of attempted thought-control by the PC police is ever going to change that, nor eradicate words to describe the condition accurately.

The thing is is that Porter was just using the word "fag" to indicate that Winslow was a "chicken-sh*t" sissy for hitting Farrior real late after the play was over and the game had long been decided.

Winslow is supposed to be married to the beautiful girl I posted earlier.

Maybe they need a new player position designaation, loose end, just for Winslow.

"Fag" was the word Porter used. I think he was talking only about Winslow being somewhat of a sissy for the late hit on Farrior. He wasn't talking about sexuality, so he certainly shouldn't be fined.
