Former US Vice President Al Gore on Apple's board [2003 Article]

Apple today announced the latest addition to its Board of Directors -- former Vice President of the United States, Al Gore. The company noted that Gore was elected in a meeting of the board today.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs called his company "excited and honored" to have been chosen by Gore; Apple's Board of Directors is the first private sector board Gore has chosen to serve on, according to Jobs.

"Al brings an incredible wealth of knowledge and wisdom to Apple from having helped run the largest organization in the world -- the United States government -- as a Congressman, Senator and our 45th Vice President. Al is also an avid Mac user and does his own video editing in Final Cut Pro," said Jobs.

Good. If that's the case, buy an iPod. We want him to win the nomination.

Well if there ever was any doubt about the politics of Apple
leadership it is finished now. Personally, I ruled out Apple
when they threw all owners of Apple IIs under the train by abandoning support for the product. Maybe they will do that to Gore.

Think of all the pollution is produced by the manufacture of iPods!

If Steve Jobs believed that adding Al Gore to the board would get the environmentalists off his back, he was wrong. Greenpeace has declared war on Apple over the iPods, and Gore is stuck with the options-backdating fiasco. Pass the popcorn.

The truth will set you free.

I suppose you could choose to own Apple stock and claim to be a conservative.

The point is the last election should make you think a little.

Are there consequences to your decisions?

You bet there are.

Do you subscribe to the New York Times?

I think you should have some cognizant process that makes you choose where your money goes.

3 year old article? What's your point? Al Gore still is on the Apple board today 12-22-2006.

Let me know how you feel when you see a "2008 Clinton-Gore" bumper sticker.

LOL! You're right! Shame on Al Gore! Bwahahahaaa!

"From cell phones to laptops, i-pods to digital cameras, we are buying - and throwing away - more electronic products than ever before. The cost is higher than the impact on your pocket book.

Electronic trash, or e-waste, contains toxic chemicals and heavy metals that cannot be disposed of or recycled safely. These pollutants end up in our water and the air we breathe. As consumers, we need your help to pull the plug on toxic technology. Urge leading electronic companies to clean up their act.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of old computers and cell phones are dumped in landfills or burned in smelters. Thousands more are exported, often illegally, to Asia, where workers at scrap yards, often children, are exposed to a cocktail of toxic chemicals and poisons."

Now he's taking credit for balancing the budget.

There is a real myth among some folks that corporations are innately politically conservative or that they favor the GOP. Look at the boards of the largest corporations and you will see many Lefties, as well as the obligatory "diversity hires." Not only is Gore on Apple's board, Slick is on Oracle's board.

Gore Can 'Buy' 2008 Election (He Owns a ton of Google Stock)
NewsMax ^ | 5/11/06

Al Gore has such a fortune in Google stock that he could easily fund his own campaign for the White House, Democratic insiders say.

Gore became a senior adviser to the Internet search engine back in February 2001, and is a close friend of CEO Dr. Eric Schmidt. Google shares went public in 2004, and the stock has soared from $85 a share to more than $400. Co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page are worth an estimated $11 billion each.

Gore "owns a ton of Google and he's made enough money that he could wait until a month before and just drop $50 million in to launch a [2008] race," a well-placed Democrat told Deborah Orin of the New York Post.

"He's got way more than enough money to buy this thing at any point in the process." Gore spokesman Mike Feldman said the former vice president "is not running for president" and is focused on global warming.

Gore stars in a documentary about global warming, "An Inconvenient Truth,” which premieres next week.

But a Gore friend told Orin: "He's doing what he should do if he wants to run. When you run and get the most votes as he did in 2000, I don't think psychologically you ever move on.”
