DUBAI (Reuters) - Saddam Hussein has been handed over by U.S forces to Iraqi government custody, his lawyers said on Friday, in an apparent step toward his execution.
al-Reuters, al-AFP, and Fox battle the clock for bragging rights and ratings. Al-Associated Press is hanging back, hoping against hope that Hussein gets spirited away to Syria. Film at eleven.

Actually, this is the best possible outcome. Consider:
- Despite the use of the word "martyr", an Islamic martyr is one who takes out the enemy with him. Saddam, by being killed by the enemy isn't a martyr, he's weak.
- Now the Saddamites (as opposed to al Qaeda) have no hope. There will be no Saddam, no Hussein to run Iraq, no matter what happens.

BUT...as we await the imminent execution of saddam...i can't shake this fealing i have...i don't know why but i feel like i don't want it to happen
why am i feeling this way?
Because the trial was far from a normal proceeding, with judges and lawyers dropping in and out of the case, a quick verdict, and an even quicker appeals process?
Maybe also because he was never had a "true" war crimes trial?

Any idea why they are not doing this more quietly or why we are not just finding out about all this after the fact?

Sometimes people focus on the wrong or miss the bigger message. The bigger political message in the ME is that any tyrant can now expect that the people may rise up and hold them accountable for their brutality.
That is not the message they like to hear in that region.
But it's coming nevertheless.
