Today the President met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the Oval Office and later made a statement to the press.
Both the President and Vice President took part in a secure video teleconference with Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki from the newly-renovated Situation Room at the White House.
The President spoke with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md) (L), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca) (C) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Oh George W. Bush on a telephone conference call at the start of the 110th Congress
Today Vice President Dick Cheney took part in the Senate re-enactment swearing-in ceremony for the 110th Congress

A lot of people are guilty with the pork. I imagine that was true in Ford's presidency as well.
If he uses it, it ought to be for something important like the WOT. Of course, there are lots of things that I think of as important, and deserving of a veto.
I seem to remember GHWB used the veto pen very effectively as well, that is how Dan Quayle was such a big help. He advised GHWB when he should use the veto, when it would stick. I think they never overrode one of GHWB's vetoes.
with all the articles about Johnson's health and taking months...wonder if the state of SOuth Dakota will have a recall, or whatever they have to do to get a senator in office.
I did read that about Ford during the last couple of days, but you have a good memory re GWHB and Quayle.....who btw was a hottie..I got to meet in person...
If Johnson resigns or becomes incapacitated(sp), then the governor of SD (a Republican) chooses a replacement.
I thought the governor could only name a replacement if Johnson resigns.

I should be traditional about it, but ... well, in my Church, Christmas starts on the 24th and ends on the 12th.
In my life, Christmas starts on Thanksgiving and by January 1, I'm just plain sick of it.
We got to meet Quayle as well, in a Wendy's in downtown Fort Wayne...
We voted for him too.
One of my hobbies is history and I read lots of history books. I have a long memory on Quayle because I got to vote for him every time he ran for office except one. We lived in his district. My husband was thrilled to meet him. I read someone's thesis about how people govern after being elected, and one of the subjects was Quayle.
Ahhh, Miss America Pelosi...we are going to have to see much more of her than I would like to, I'm afraid! Ugh!
I was thinking about Quayle today in connection with the Main stream media's ability to totally taint a person's reputation.
They managed to make Gerald Ford, probably the best athlete who's ever been president, into a clumsy oaf who couldn't climb stairs and they managed to make Quayle out to be a goofball over an insignificant error in a spelling bee.
Yet, when one thinks of what they tolerate and ignore in the dems, it's ... mind boggling, as Rush would say.
I agree, snugs. I would value a friend much more who trusts me enough to feel comfortable disagreeing with me from time to time, graciously, as you said.
That's only true if you avoid politics. If you talk politics with a liberal, they will never, ever forgive you for being conservative.
I easily forgive them for being liberal, so I don't get it, but that's the way it is.
