A trial date [May 11] is now set for the ethics complaint filed against Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong.

If the state bar finds Nifong guilty of Nifonging innocent people, he could receive penalties ranging from a reprimand to revocation of his licence to practice law.

Dorothy Rabinowitz's column in today's Wall Street Journal reminds us that Scott Harshbarger may have built his career by Nifonging the Amiraults. It is frightening that this individual came within a couple of percentage points of becoming Governor of Massachusetts.

"reprimand to revocation of his licence to practice law."

What about time served for criminal misconduct.
Nifong should serve time.
He should repay the millions the three families have spent on defense. Bogus charges should be a crime.

I think Nifong's ethic violations are so extensive and repugnant that the only remedy is for him to be disbarred.

The shoe is on the other foot. Now Nifong has to defend himself against the complaint and I wonder how he feels now... Really, he needs to be disbarred.

Nifong and the accuser should have to do hard time for the pain they have caused innocent people. How devastating, both financially and psychologically to be falsely charged and the possibility of having to go on trial where one might face an OJ jury and end up with a long prison term.

There's nothing "maybe" about that one and there's one poor sob (Frank Fuster) still sitting in a Flori-duh prison in consequence of one of Janet Reno's witchcraft abuse trials.

I'd like to know what it's going to take for that one to come up on the radar of the republican party or for Jeb Bush to do something about it.

Fong belongs in psych lockup somewhere with the guys who think they're Julius Caesar and Tamerlane. It's the president and a layer of Duke faculty about a hundred deep which belong in prison.

Actually, the OJ jury acquitted someone who was probably guilty, although given the break-in of the Ford Bronco, I would have had to vote to acquit myself. Once the chain of custody is broken, the evidence is no good.

What the lacrosse players really have to worry about is not an OJ jury but an Amirault jury, in which MA prosecutor Scott Harshbarger convinced twelve people who were too stupid to get out of jury duty (there's no other explanation for the verdict) that the defendant sodomized a child with a huge butcher knife but left no permanent injuries, and also that a robot that looked like R2-D2 was present during the proceedings.

What Nifong has to worry about is the fact that no literate person who has read Durham's newspapers, or for that matter anyone who has been following the news, will believe him or his witnesses in any case he brings to court, even if the defendants are actually guilty. If Nifong told me that X had murdered Y, I would at this point question whether Y was really dead.

Nothing will happen because Important People give each other a pass; it's how they know they're important.

"she reported she only got 1,400 dollars in income last year"

She is not well versed on income. She probably thinks "TRICKS" are tax exempt income.

Good point. Her taxes should certainly be investigated. Since she has been described as a "college student" and I even saw the term "honor student" referred to her, a mental retardation defense won't fly too well.
