I can't believe what you said. Surely you understand that what was done to him from the very beginning, and then continuing, could have been more than enough to put him in this frame of mind, and keep him there. If you don't know that it's not only possible but a virtual given, depending on what was done to him immediately and thereafter, then there's not muchl use discussing it. I don't need to withhold judgement. The man also kidnapped Ben Ownby. All of it a dead giveaway. Sorry...
know what else I'm thinking? Ben was left alone in the apt after 4 days of being with Devlin and he didn't try and escape! WHY NOT? Why isn't anyone else asking that? Because he was afraid out of his mind as well.
i think you misunderstand me. What I ment was I believe Shawn suffered from Stockholm syndrome and that is why he didn't try and run away. I do not blame him. This whole thing is hard to understand and I don't understand it, but I'm on SHawn's side, unlike Oreilly! Just because I clearly don't understand this doesn't mean that I don't stand by my opinion based on the facts right now that show this child didn't flee because of fear.
Just speculation on my part, or maybe I've read too many trial transcripts -- but what if Devlin has kidnapped and killed other boys and perhaps showed Shawn and Ben photos or videos of him torturing them? Certainly that would be enough to frighten an 11-year-old into keeping silent. There are obviously many things we don't know, but one thing I am absolutely certain of: Michael Devlin is the bad guy here, and those boys are victims.
Now you're taking the opposite tack. I'm going to bed, my head hurts from too much going around in it. I pay no attention to the defense attorneys. They can't paper over the fact that we all know this pervert kidnapped Ben, too. HELLLOOOOO....

see this is what I mean. We can have opinions but until we get all the answer, we can't make a final judgement. I for one think if Shawn played in the part of kidnapping Ben and holding him hostage than it was because of Stockholm Syndrome.
Too many speculations around here and questions. We will soon find out the answers and will be able to see just exactly happend to Shawn all those years and the Ben kidnapping and what happend during that time.
That little Groen girl was in stores and pancake houses and if it wasn't for someone identifying her she would probably be dead
no biggy. I'm not one around here to blame Shawn. If I question why Shawn didn't get out of the situation it is because of frustration and anger that this went on for 4 years. This is a catastrophe and clearly Shawn is in need of serious help to recover, if he ever can.

i agree. If only more people were more aware of their surroundings and paid attention more kids could get home safe and sound.
Well on the courtv boards someone posted that Shawn was threatened repeately that if he talked he would be killed ! the kidnapper had 3 guns too ...
( Also on courtv amber alerts section Shawn )A Poster wrote that the day Shawn was kidnapped a caller called 911 to report a boy being tied up in a pick up truck !! The cops couldn't find the pick up truck though... On the courtv boards there's a link to the story too.......
FWIW, Shawn DID admit to seeing a "Missing" poster of himself, age progressed. Who did he think was looking for him since it's being said he was told his Mother was dead?
He joked that the picture was an "insult"..

You'll find convincing posts that Shawn was deathly afraid of Devlin who owned 3 guns , was 300 pounds , had kiddie porn on his computer , & threatended to kill him & etc....

I read that Devlin was adopted, as were three of his BROTHERS. Strange Devlin's parents adopted so many boys and no girls.
We know that abusers go on to abuse.
Was Devlin sexually abused as a child? If so, did Devlin see his own adoption as no more than a child abducted/adopted for sex? If he was raised to think it was ok to "adopt" a child for sexual reasons, it would explain his behavior.
I wonder how old Devlin was when he was adopted?
The news just never keeps up with my questions. If I owned a newspaper, I wouldn't sleep til I had the answers.
We live near a foster home, the foster mom said over the years she's seen that abused kids are brazen about abusing others and feel no shame about abuse as to them it is "normal", which is why they quickly start abusing other children around them when placed in foster care - so I worry if Shawn was abused did he make advances towards Tony or his brothers?
