Hawaii is 2 hours behind the time at the bottom of the posts here at FR. : )

It depends what time zone you have selected for your FR settings/options.

You can have FR set to PT, ET and maybe even CT. You can change this in the options.

In fact, I used to see PT in my posts, until I figured out that could be changed. Right now, at the bottom of my posts, it says "1:16AM EST"

Yeah, but he said he was wrong on that one and he really meant the flooding in New England.

I watched the big tsunami unfold live on FR. I picked it up 15 minutes of the quake and stayed up till 3AM. It was the most helpless feeling to watch and know, and not be able to do anything. I have been on this event since 3 minutes after first post. It is frustrating and yet, you can't stop watching.

I'm with ya'... I can't say that I will be here 3 hours from now though.

I watched the aftermath from the other one and the after, aftermath. Kind of like Katrina.

Can I stop watching? It is US this time, maybe. It will be here in the morning.

I've never watched his show, I just remember seeing the small headline. Here is the quote:

Robertson said, "Well, ladies and gentlemen, I have felt strongly that the coasts are going to be lashed by vicious hurricanes this year. Also, there may well be something as bad as a tsunami up in the Pacific Northwest." http://mediamatters.org/items/200605180016

quakes above 7.5 can make tsunamis. I wonder if it could hit hawaii? or is the quake on the far side of japan from it

Perhaps the most important earthquake to study to understand tsunami destruction at a distance is the Great Chilean Earthquake of 1960 (a 9.5 magnitude earthquake). That earthquake devastated Hilo, Hawaii, areas of the Philippines, a couple of local areas in Japan, and of course Chile. What is important is that reflected waves or waves caused at different points can combine in certain areas to amplify locally. This is why Hilo, Hawaii was devastated in 1960, but most of Hawaii was unscathed. It is interesting to note that Hilo, Hawaii was hit by several small waves from the tsunami (like parts in Japan) before a larger devastating wave hit. from the Great Earthquake of 2004 may help you to see how it acts. The major lesson is to evacuate everywhere that the tsunami could possibly have these amplifying actions (or just the original wavefront) that exceed a certain setpoint. More information on the Great Chilean Earthquake of 1960.

it could be even longer than 3 hours. NOAA is predicting approximately 5:23 AM (Eastern Time) (12:23 Hawaii Time) should anything happen there. I pray not though.

My son, in Hilo, just called to say he's going up to Kaumana area - away from his apt by ocean. And he usually ignores these watches. But a 8.4 quake. . . . . Civil defense message flashing across our TV screens now. I'm up by the airport, so don't have to leave.

Thanks for the thread, Hal9000.
