Our high tide here on the Oregon coast is at around 2:30 am 7.7 ft high and the tsunami advisory is for 4:45 a.m.
Crud now I am not going to be able to sleep. Oh I forgot I am a day sleeper.
It will be sunrise/dawn here and the rare snow we had that is now a layer of ice won't allow me to look out at the water.
So who do you think is right?
The USGS that says 7.7 magnitude, or the noaa tsunami people who say 8.4?
Your welcome, my cousin is a noaa guy who works on this stuff in Hawaii, I'm going to send him an email later, I'm quite sure he's a bit busy right now.
That is quite a huge area for this advisory.
From BC down to Mexico!

Hokkaido on alert after 7.7-magnitude quake strikes off Kuril Islands
TOKYO - A tsunami warning was issued on Saturday for the eastern part of Japans northernmost island of Hokkaido and a lesser warning for a wide swathe of northeastern and eastern Honshu, Japans main island, NHK public television said.
The earliest possible arrival of the tsunami was estimated at 2 p.m. (0500 GMT) on the eastern coast of Hokkaido with an estimated maximum height of one meter.
The warning came after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck to the east of the Kuril Islands. The quake rocked parts of eastern Hokkaido and northeastern Honshu. There were no immediate reports of injuries from the earthquake.

Tsunami Watch for State of Hawaii
By KHON News
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a Tsunami Watch for the state of Hawaii following an 8.4 magnitude earthquake east of Kuril Islands in northern Japan.
An investigation is underway to determine if there is a tsunami threat to Hawaii.
If tsunami waves impact Hawaii the estimated arrival of the first tsunami wave is 12:23 AM.
Stay tuned to KHON2 News for the latest.
USGS has increased their estimate to magnitude 7.9 (was 7.7)
NOAA has decreased their estimate to magnitude 8.2 (was 8.4)
What time is it there?
Here's the story from the Honolulu Star-Bulletin from about 40 minutes ago:
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami watch for Hawaii tonight after a 8.4 magnitude earthquake east of the Kuril Islands off Japan. If a tsunami was generated, the estimated arrival time in Hawaii is 12:23 a.m. Saturday at Nawiliwili Harbor on Kauai, 12:41 a.m. in Honolulu and 12:58 a.m. in Hilo. It was not known whether a tsunami was generated, according to the center, but preliminary reports from Japans Meteorological Agency said a 3.3-foot-high tsumami could be headed for the northeastern coast of Japans northern island of Hokkaido. State and county civl defense officials are aware of the warning. Were in the wait and see mode right now, said John Cummings, Oahu Civil Defense Agency spokesman. The Japanese agency said a 8.4 magnitude earthquake occurred at about 2:23 p.m. Saturday (6:23 p.m. today Hawaii time) off the Kuril islands. The epicenter coordinates are 154.4 east latitude, 46.7 north latitude. A tsunami warning is in effect for Russia, Japan and the Marcus islands, according to the Ewa Beach-based center. A watch is in effect for Hawaii, Wake Island, Midway Atoll, Johnston island, the Northern Marianas, Guam, the Marshall islands, Taiwan, Yap, Pohnpei, Chuuk, the Philippines, Kosrae, and Beleu.
Hawaii is 7 hours BEHIND US ET.
Tokyo is 14 hours AHEAD of US ET.
I would head inland for the high ground just in case.
5 hours behind not 7, for hawaii. (at this time of year)
Oregon Coast here.
Ya know the last advisory we had and they called off about 2months ago Crescant City Cali got blasted pretty good. And that was after the all clear announcement.
Crescant City always seems to get hit though. I don't know why.
Should have hit KUSHIRO, Japan by now. Anyone hear anything?
To clarify, I'm not in Japan. I just saw the news flash that the tsunami has hit.
