"Psychology Today" is to psychology as "Popular Science" is to science. (But you knew that.)

This whole survey is idiotic. I am an archaeologist and a Conservative. My colleagues have books relating to their field of study and little else. On my wall there are books concerning topics from animal husbandry to zeppelin construction. I'm the most Conservative of my peer group and the most roundly read of the group.

Conservative men are more likely than liberal men to prefer conventional forms of entertainment like TV and talk radio.

What a crock! Liberals of all stripes watch more TV because all the shows cater to them. And look how the liberals are blowing a gasket about the one show, "24", conservatives probably watch more than them.

It doesn't spew the usual liberal nonsense like every other show.

Conservatives are more likely to be religious.

They put that in to demonstrate how bad Conservatives are.

Multiple studies find that liberals are more optimistic.

So why are they always handwringing and skeered of the world and "demanding" a safe place?

Liberals have more books, and their books cover a greater variety of topics.

I guess coloring books counted in the survey...

Multiple studies find that liberals are more optimistic.

I guess they never heard of DU...

Conservatives are more likely to be religious.

Conservatives tend to believe there is something greater than themselves in the universe...

Liberals are more likely to like classical music and jazz, conservatives, country music.

I like classical, jazz, blues, country, classic rock, anything but (c)rap, hip hop, and todays top 40...

Liberals are more likely to enjoy abstract art.

Liberals tend to understand abstract art, since it takes no brains whatsoever to "enjoy" it...

Conservative men are more likely than liberal men to prefer conventional forms of entertainment like TV and talk radio.

Conventional=NORMAL!!!

Liberal men like romantic comedies more than conservative men.

Only because "romantic comedies" today contain at least 1 gay...

Liberal women are more likely than conservative women to enjoy books, poetry, writing in a diary, acting, and playing musical instruments.

The only "instrument" a liberal girlfriend I once dated prefered was "herself"...

"I'm the most Conservative of my peer group and the most roundly read of the group."

Ditto here. I have degrees in the social sciences and biology and have practiced for over 21 years. I have read more than any Dem I have ever known. In fact most of the Dems I know sit around the house, watch soaps and Dr Phil and think they would qualify to diagnose people.

I call it a Soap Opera Psychology, which is about all this mag is worthy of.

"As they become more established, doctors and lawyers tend to protect their economic interests by moving to the right."

Yeah, in other words, once they start working and have to pay for all the liberal "ideas", they smarten up and become conservative.

If the liberals of the world went on strike, what would happen?

If the Conservatives of the world went on strike, what would happen?

Nuff said.

When I read the part about Conservatives prefering country music, I half expected another line about conservatives prefering to drive pick up trucks with a gun rack in the rear window.

And just WHAT is WRONG with that?

(OK, I admit, I don't have a gun rack in the rear window...)

My walls are lined with books and very few could be categorized as "popular fiction" or "coffee table books." I listen to Jazz and classical guitar. One daughter sings and another plays piano and clarinet. We are all quite conservative and my friends and acquaintances tend to be similar in their tastes and talents with, yes, more country music and little or no rap-hip hop etc, but this is, after all, the south.

What the heck is erotic logic?

I asked my husband and he said he didn't know, but it made him horney.

(Men have two basic needs. Sex and food. If he can't get "it" to work, make him a sandwich. He'll be just fine.)

Psychology has, for a long time, perhaps always, been a fraud with whole departments in universities devoted to teaching the art of fraud. But what the heck, it's not worse than "Women's Studies" or Queer Theory."

Liberals have more books, and their books cover a greater variety of topics.

-Bull.

Multiple studies find that liberals are more optimistic.

-Double Bull.

Conservatives are more likely to be religious.

-Liberals are just as religious. Their religion is Socialism.

Liberals are more likely to like classical music and jazz, conservatives, country music.

-So, liberals are stuffy and stoic and conservatives are more fun and laid back? OK.

Liberals are more likely to enjoy abstract art.

-Abstract art. Art that looks like a bunch of randomness and has no real meaning or purpose. Kinda like their politics.

Conservative men are more likely than liberal men to prefer conventional forms of entertainment like TV and talk radio.

-And they're also more likely to sexually prefer women.

Liberal men like romantic comedies more than conservative men.

-Because they're gay.

Liberal women are more likely than conservative women to enjoy books, poetry, writing in a diary, acting, and playing musical instruments.

-So?

As kids, liberals had developed close relationships with peers and were rated by their teachers as self-reliant, energetic, impulsive, and resilient. People who were conservative at age 23 had been described by their teachers as easily victimized, easily offended, indecisive, fearful, rigid, inhibited, and vulnerable at age 3. The reason for the difference, the Blocks hypothesized, was that insecure kids most needed the reassurance of tradition and authority, and they found it in conservative politics.

-Bunch of (false) psychobabble bullsh*t.

Business students, for instance, become more conservative in their views toward minorities. As they become more established, doctors and lawyers tend to protect their economic interests by moving to the right.

-No liberal crap would be complete without a cheap shot at wealthy people.

Two words - causative or indicative

What this hit piece does is take a bunch of indicative data points and attempts to represent them as causative. You would think that some where along the way, this author would have learned the difference.
