Weekend Talk Show *Preview* for 1/20 and 1/21/2007 (not the live thread)

The 100 hours are over and it looks like the "triumphant and all powerful" Dhimmicrats will make absolutely no difference in the corruption in Washington in the long run. They have gotten tied up in obviously meaningless measures and then got caught trying to block earmark reform red handed. They have been made to look both extreme and partisan in their rhetoric and Nazi like in their grotesque behavior (see Barney Frank's stint as acting Speaker, Rush has the audio on the subscription side of his web site). But they've also proved that they are incompetent and ineffective, which ought to be fatal to their agenda. Therefore the DBM (drive by media) must change the subject! It's a moral imperative.

Accordingly the Iraq ~~surge~~ escalation is the only topic to be discussed by the DBM this week. And pretty much the deck is stacked on the shows with opponents, particularly highlighting Republican opponents. After all, they must reward those who will kowtow to their ideological positions. And that sets the stage for the message they want to push, that THE CONGRESS (all power be unto them), including most Republicans (other than die hard militarists and loony right wingers) oppose not only the surge, but the war in general. And they're not limiting themselves to the war in Iraq. There's a growing undercurrent of surrender in the overall war on terror as well, particularly aimed at the idea of abandoning Israel to (justified) destruction, but that is only hinted at this early in the game, perhaps to test the Waters, so to speak.

NBC Meet The Press offers the most direct debate on the subject, presenting John McCain "for the surge" and Teddy Kennedy "against the escalation." I'm taking bets on which words Lil' Timmah will choose to use to characterize the Bush plan (other than 'desperate' or 'failed,' that is). McCain has been the darling of the DBM, particularly MTP, for several years, so long as he was a reliable critic of all things Bush. He has wandered off the reservation on Iraq recently and I think "his base," which even he has acknowledged, is the media, is turning on him for his apostasy. This may be a very hostile appearance for him on what has been his "home turf" for a long time. Do you suppose there will be any serious questions for Teddy about the constitutional issues or consequences of raping the powers of the executive in time of war? Nah. It'll never happen

CBS Face The Nation is perhaps the most blatant in their guest selection by providing solo time for Chuck Hagel. The DBM has been pushing big time the last few weeks that Hagel has only recently turned against Bush on Iraq, which is a total lie, and CBS is going to do their best to cement that lie in peoples minds as TRUTH. To aid them in their Ministry of Truth campaign they are bringing in some "heavy hitters" from a new political news startup, Politico.COM. This is a web site, news service and print report made up of ex Washington Post and other DBM Washington insiders who apparently didn't think that the traditional DBM outlets were "progressive" enough. Oh, and CBS just happens to have a deal with these folks to use them as analysts and expert commentators. We are supposed to believe that CBS News is going to sign a deal like that with an unbiased "news" entity? I don't think so.

Fox News Sunday has an interesting line up with Biden and Levin for the Dhimmicrats who oppose the ~~surge~~ escalation and Newt Gingrich... being Newt (who knows how he'll come down on this issue?). Biden is all over the map on Iraq and could be tripped up badly by a few selective clips of past statements, but I bet Chris Wallace won't go there. Levin is consistent in his opposition to defending the United States against anyone or anything, so he isn't going to do or say something out of character. Newt, surprisingly, is emerging as a quiet power among intellectual conservatives and his positions will be most revealing. I'm particularly struck by the piece in American Thinker which I linked to. Though just a "letter to the editor," I think it has the potential to represent a growing meme within the party. There is fierce opposition from somewhere to almost every potential Republican, which may make Newt's decision to wait for September a wise one. By that time his own baggage may seem small compared to any potential competitors. In the meantime he's keeping his hand in and making some very interesting arguments as to how to proceed on a host of issues. Regardless, he's always fascinating (if sometimes infuriating) to listen to.

On CNN's Late Edition Wolfie pairs Leahy against McCain's sock puppet Graham and Mike Pence against Maxine Waters then throws in the Iraqi ("US Marines murdered my cousin") ambassador to the US. What can we tell from these guests? Leahy looks like a wise old man with his shock of white hair and laconic Vermont mannerisms, while Lindsey Graham looks (and acts) like Goober from Dukes of Hazard (with a stick up his backside, to be sure). I expect to see Wolfe cater to Leahy and criticize Graham with great enthusiasm. I find the pairing of Pence with Waters as the more significant indicator of their intentions. CNN is both attempting to cast Pence as a radical, in the mold of a conservative analog to Waters, and conversely to grant legitimacy to Waters' lunatic ranting by equating her with an emerging conservative (but not radical) voice in the House. CNN's core audience is the "hate America first" crowd and they intend to move the "middle" as quickly as possible to the extreme left. For Samir Sumaidaie I see this as a lose-lose appearance. If he supports the Bush proposal then Wolfie will attack him with both his own claims about his cousin's death and Maliki's comments from last week. If he opposes the Bush position then he will be the poster child for the US abandoning his country. Not an enviable position. We'll see just how good he is at dancing the two step.

ABC This Week is as blatant as CBS, but takes advantage of their longer format to give us both a Republican and a Democrat who oppose Bush. What a surprise. To top it off they add their own "legal correspondent" (promoting a book) to lay out the malfeasance of the Bush administration in their mishandling of their appointments to the US Supreme Court. Oh the humanity! Won't someone rid us of this troublesome President? This Week doesn't really offer me any reason to watch it this week, not even to wallow in the collective wisdom of George, George, Cokie and Sam. Why am I not surprised? But, of course, the "fairness doctrine" would forever be forbidden to accept the notion that these twits are partisan hacks that need to have a countervailing voice provided for "fairness." Thank you Dennis Kucinich, you fascist SOB.

The Saturday shows offer an interesting "undercard" this week, with a lot of the same conventional wisdom that the DBM wants to push out to the rest of us. The Beltway Boys want us to accept the hype about the preeminence of the anti-war left in the Congress as well as expecting us to care about Hillary vs. Obama. Personally I have other priorities. I also recognize that the Democrats, let alone the radical left, have only a fingernail hold on either house of Congress. But that won't deter the "conventional wisdom." When has reality ever intruded on the inside the beltway version of "reality?" Tim Russert's QVC style book promotion show on CNBC is getting to the bottom of the barrel if it has to promote the "wildly entertaining" Jim Cramer (also of CNBC). Serious authors on serious subjects need not apply, it appears. Fox News Watch laments the vicious attacks on Obama (which ones?) and the tabloid coverage of the "Missouri Miracle," while at the same time adding to the tabloid coverage of both issues. They also branch out into the groupthink condemnation of the TV show "24" for daring to present an Islamic terrorist as a bad guy. What an outrageous proposition! I guess there haven't been twelve million other hours of programming on the DBM in the last two years that have presented the US as the bad guys and the Jihadis as the poor misunderstood martyrs that they truly are? The Journal Editorial Report, as usual, saves us from the quagmire of mediocrity that Saturday has become by actually acknowledging the largest corruption scandal in the history of the planet. Everyone who bitches at Bush about "lying about Iraq" should be carrying torches to find Kofi Annan and his cronies for having made the Iraq war a necessity through their betrayal of mankind for crass lucre (and they sold their "honor" cheap, too).

So, there you have it. We began the real work in Washington ten days or so ago and there are real votes and real issues to deal with. The DBM is in all out partisan attack mode, reliving their glory days when they "defeated" the United States in Vietnam and they have visions of ratings coups as they bring down "the last super power" in the war on terror. Like the Dhimmicrat's response to "what next" when asked what to do if we "redeploy" from Iraq, the DBM can't seem to imagine what will follow on after a defeat for the US in the war on terror. Of course, they believe that none of the fall out will affect them. If we lose my sole consolation is to look forward to the reports by the Imams of Right and Virtue who get assigned to the DBM news rooms in the coming years, along with the executions of the apostates and infidels, of course. Ironically I want to spare those anti-American leftist bastards in the DBM that fate by not losing this war. How silly of me.

Here's a sample of my usual witty commentary...

The 100 hours are over and it looks like the "triumphant and all powerful" Dhimmicrats will make absolutely no difference in the corruption in Washington in the long run. They have gotten tied up in obviously meaningless measures and then got caught trying to block earmark reform red handed. They have been made to look both extreme and partisan in their rhetoric and Nazi like in their grotesque behavior ... Therefore the DBM (drive by media) must change the subject! It's a moral imperative.
Accordingly the Iraq ~~surge~~ escalation is the only topic to be discussed by the DBM this week. And pretty much the deck is stacked on the shows with opponents, particularly highlighting Republican opponents. After all, they must reward those who will kowtow to their ideological positions. And that sets the stage for the message they want to push, that THE CONGRESS (all power be unto them), including most Republicans (other than die hard militarists and loony right wingers) oppose not only the surge, but the war in general. ...
... If we lose my sole consolation is to look forward to the reports by the Imams of Right and Virtue who get assigned to the DBM news rooms in the coming years, along with the executions of the apostates and infidels, of course. Ironically I want to spare those anti-American leftist bastards in the DBM that fate by not losing this war. How silly of me.
