resident Bush to welcome Lithuanian president in White House

Friday, January 19, 2007

U.S. President George W. Bush will welcome his Lithuanian counterpart Valdas Adamkus in the White House on Feb. 12, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said Friday.

"Under the leadership of President Adamkus, Lithuania has been a close partner of the United States in advancing freedom in Belarus and elsewhere in Eastern Europe," Perino said.

"As one of the newest members of NATO, Lithuania has made substantial contributions to the security and reconstruction of Afghanistan through its leadership of a provincial reconstruction team and participation in other alliance activities," Perino said, adding that Bush looks forward to discussing Iraq and other issues with Adamkus.

Lithuania is an ally of the United States and has now some 60 troops in the U.S.-led multinational troops stationed in Iraq.

Aren't the Lithuanians those little guys that tied Gulliver to the ground? Their president looks so big.

Lithuanians are not small even though their country is. They took on the Russians bravely to gain their freedom! On Bloody Sunday the Russians slaughtered members of the group opposed to them. They stood their ground and gained their freedom.

How about we swap the Lithuanian president for Bush even up? No, that wouldn't be fair. Let's throw in an NFL franchise too.
