My aunt and uncle sent this out to our family at 6:30 AM today. Carrie is my young cousin, a very gifted artist, and the second eldest among her siblings. She and her family are in Michigan.
Prayer reqeust from my aunt and uncle (Carrie is their granddaughter).
This morning on her way to work Carrie's car slid on the highway and into a tree. She has very bad injuries, especially to her head. Her brain is swelling and she is now in surgery. They plan to open her skull to allow for the swelling, and she is not responding. They don't give her parents a lot of hope. We are telling everyone so you can join us in praying for our dear Caroline. They called her parents about 7:45 this morning and they're at the hospital now.
Thank-You Gretchen for this update. Praying for wisdom, guidance & direction for the Drs. for this surgery. Also, praying for peace, comfort & strength for Carrie and her family, for all to go well during the surgery and complete healing for Carrie.
From Carrie's sister and brother-in-law She can now open both eyes (still not really able to make a connection though) and hold her head up when her bed is in the upright 90 degree position. She is learning how to eat thru her mouth a little at a time rather than thru her feeding tube in her stomach. This teaches Carrie how to swallow again which will also help keep saliva from building up in her mouth.
Thanks for your care and concern during this process.
Love, L and C
From my uncle and aunt We went in to see Carrie and ended up playing our instruments for her. This is "down home" music. The nurse on duty liked it, as did M, D, and their guests.
Carrie will have her surgery tomorrow to replace her skull piece. We don't know the time yet.
There is a new nurse today. M likes her already. She talks to Carrie and brought books to read to her. This sounds like what M wants going on.
Carrie is getting more regular foods now. M cooked spinach, squash, macaroni, sweet potatoes, tofu, broccoli sprouts, etc., etc., etc. She than pureed it in her blender, strained it into a big bowl and that made enough for 6 days of meals. The nurse adds water and feeds her through the stomach tube. Yesterday M found some liquid minerals and vitamins for Carrie too. Carrie is tolerating the new vegetables--and fruit juices well.
[Please forgive =) my passing on this information about two more of my cousins, L and W, who are close to Carrie's age. They are sons of Carrie's mother's sister and her husband.] L graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors in [his first major], and Honors in [his second major]. He received a full scholarship for his graduate study, which will start in the fall. His brother, W [I think this might be for post-grad work], won the award for [a class in his major] -- voted top student by the teachers of the class. We're proud of these two young men.
We Love You, and hope you have a good week.
This is terrific news. Carrie’s still in my prayers.

This is nice to hear Gretchen. She’s eating veggies and opening both eyes. This is wonderful.
Thanks for keeping us current with Carrie.
May the Father continue to bless her and your family.
Love,
Kristin
Something you may want to pass on, contact sports medicine doctors, especially ones who treat boxers. I read how the military is seeking them out to help treat the guys with head injuries from the IED's.
What a positive update. The fact that she is opening up her eyes, speaks volumes to me!! The veggies sound good for her and probably taste good to her too, even if through the stomach.
Congratulations to your special cousins! WHat wonderful honors these fine young men have recieved. You must be proud.

((( GEM ))) Your devotion to Carrie sweetens my heart and so does her progress. Continued prayers and thanks for the update.
Wow !!!! Sounds like all good news and I’m sure brings comfort to Carrie’s family. We’ll be focusing our prayers on her tomorrow, as we do each and every day.
Congratulations to Carrie’s cousins, too. Those are major achievements to be acknowledged and lauded by one and all. Somehow, tho, I am not surprised. This seems an exceptionally gifted family in every sense. The ultimate gift, of course, will be Carrie’s full and complete healing.
Lord Bless and Heal this loved one...
Prayers continue.
one Grace-filled at a time!
Prayers up!
This is great news, continuing to hold Carrie up in prayers.
Encouraging news, Gretchen! Prayers continue . . . especially tomorrow.
Thanks for letting me know that Carrie could open both eyes now, I did not know that, how exciting. Thanks for the reminder about tomorrow. Hope all goes well, and will keep you in prayer.
Thanks for the update. Prayers for Carrie & the family..~Pandora~
That’s awesome news in your latest update Gretchen. I will continue to keep Carrie and her family in my prayers.
