A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....01-26,27,28-07....T.G.I.F. at the Finest
Billie

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ Billie, Dutchess, Dolly Cali, GodBlessUSA, Aquamarine ~

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

Every Thursday at the Finest
The guy's good, folks!

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I received this in my email June 10th, 2006 - the author is unknown.
I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Very appropriate attire Kitty Mittens. It is a bit nippy out.

I'm wearing my red rock (jasper I think) to support our troops.

Lord, We thank You for those who are serving in our armed forces. Each day they are making brave sacrifices so that our country can remain strong and free. Keep them safe under the shelter of Your wings. And Lord, for their families back home——whose loving support enables our armed forces, to do all that they are called on to do——we ask that You comfort them and give them Your peace...the peace that passes all understanding. Amen

Below are names of some of our FReepers' loved ones who are serving our country. If you have someone you would like to add, please address a post to
Billie; Dutchess; DollyCali; JustAmy; The Mayor; GodBlessUSA,
and we will add their name to this list. As we pray for them, we pray also for all our nation’s leaders, and military personnel, and their families and friends. May God hold them close to His heart. Amen

To: GodBlessUSA; All

good morning. Big temp change here from yesterday. When I walked the dogs this morning it was 40! yesterday about 8. Nice & balmy

Did you catch this? DST moved up three weeks to the second Sunday in March?! Can't say I mind particularly, but it sure will be dark in the morning. On March 10, civil twilight will begin at 7:25 DST and the sun won't rise until nearly 8am (7:52).

Should make sleeping late a bit easier, sans window treatments. ;)

This is the note received: Starting in the spring of 2007, daylight saving time

(DST) start and end dates for the United States will transition to comply with the Energy Policy Act of
2005. DST dates in the United States will start three weeks earlier (2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday in
March) and will end one week later (2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November).

(New DST start date: March 11, 2007
DST end date: Nov 4, 2007)

All desktops/laptops need to be patched to comply with this new Energy Policy (otherwise, your computer won't know about the change)

Please consult your OS or PC manufacturer's web site for further information.

Hi Dolly,
Oh the morning thing, I will need to adjust to. Always look forward to getting up really early in the spring. It's nice when it's light out in the evening hours

The week before Halloween changing of the clocks is always a bummer for the little trick or treaters. That is good.

Lucky ;) Hoping we get that temp change soon too! :)

The Turkish Delight Syndrome

Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. —Romans 13:14 In The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Edmund was easily won over to the side of darkness by the wicked white witch. Her method was simple—she appealed to his love for rich, sweet food, as well as for status and revenge. The Turkish Delight she offered him was delicious, and it left him craving even more. So strong was its appeal that it led him to betray his brother and sisters.

The appetites of the world and the flesh are powerful and addictive tools of the devil. He appeals to our love for what satisfies our selfish and sinful desires and uses it to tempt, control, discourage, defeat, and destroy us. We crave power or money or food or alcohol or clothes or sex, even though we are in danger of sacrificing our friends, our loved ones, and even our relationship with our Savior to satisfy our desires.

How can we resist the temptations of Satan? Paul said, “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (Gal. 5:16). He also wrote, “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts” (Rom. 13:14). And John said, “Do not love the world or the things in the world” (1 John 2:15).

Put on the Lord and walk in the Spirit. That’s how to break the power of the Turkish Delight syndrome.

When temptation’s darts assail us,
When in devious paths we stray,
Let Your goodness never fail us,
Lead us in Your perfect way.  —Hastings

God provides the armor to withstand temptation, but we must put it on.

Poppies Along A Virginia Roadside

Romans 5:1-5 (NLT)
Faith Brings Joy

1 Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.

2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.

3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.

4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.

5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

The Name

You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. —Exodus 20:7

It’s not easy to keep up with the shorthand that accompanies today’s fast-paced, youth-oriented electronic communication. In IM-speak (Instant Message talk) or text-message language, “laughing out loud” becomes “lol.” “By the way” is “btw.” And regrettably, some people use “omg” for “Oh, my God!”

This last phrase seems to be on the lips of many who receive startling news. But as Christians, we need to stop before we utter this or any other phrase that flippantly uses God’s name.

In Matthew 6, when Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, the first thing He told them to say was this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name” (v.9). Clearly, God’s name itself is special. It encompasses His nature, His teachings, and His moral authority. To speak the name of God is to call on the Creator and Sustainer of the universe.

In every way possible, we should honor and protect God’s holy name, preserving its use for those occasions when we are speaking of Him or addressing Him in faith.

Let’s be careful never to turn the hallowed name of our awesome and mighty God into just another flippant phrase on our lips or in a text message.

May all I am and do and say
Give glory to my Lord alway;
And may no act of mine cause shame
Nor bring reproach upon His name.  —Anon.

God’s name: handle with care.

Due to answered prayer the Christian group based in DC prevailed and was able to attend their National Memorial Service on the 22nd . Thousands joined in a powerful declaration of life and celebration of the giver of life in the US Senate Auditorium in the Dirksen building.
Praise God!

I did an Easter Post a couple of years ago on Romans Chapter 5 so knew that scripture sounded familiar. Mine was in the King James version, your's must be New Testament.

Here's the familier one.
Romans Chapter Five( King James)

1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
