There seems to be a few Democrats that are ready for "retirement." Byrd, Kennedy, Tim Johnson, Patrick Leahy, "Dingy Harry" to mention a few.

Nah, not Teddy. He's a picture of perfect health.

THAT'S WHY WHEN A FAT DRUNK PROPOSES LEGISLATION LIKE THIS, WE ALL NEED TO PAY ATTENTION. Because when one thinks of health, Ted Kennedy is the first thing that pops into our mind:

FDA Regulation of tobacco products. Smoking is the number one preventable cause of death in America. Empowering the Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products is long overdue. Effective FDA regulation will help to deter young people from starting to smoke and to assist current smokers in quitting. Senator Kennedy authored FDA legislation to give the FDA this authority. It passed the Senate twice but was blocked by the House Republican leadership. Enacting this important public health legislation should be a top priority for the new Congress.

He could help by making a one time donation out of his personal fortune to all those who work for minimum wage. (Along with the rest of his liberal wealthy cronies who claim they are so worried about the *poor*)

Make it a gift to avoid the taxes and viola' problem solved. The people will have more expendable income that isn't going to be taxed than anything they would have gotten with that raise, companies won't have to cut back on the number of employees to stay in business, and they wouldn't have to raise prices to be able to afford to pay the new wage, thus eating up any benefit of the raise.

Instead, he wants to look like the hero by forcing everyone else to do it.

For his information, there are many places we know that are already paying more than minimum wage.

I heard this f-tard on Rush's show today...how absolutely damn funny was it to hear Fat Teddy whining about the Republicans doing the same thing that the Dims did when THEY were in the minority.

And I don't doubt for a momnent that the Donkeycrat party will go nucular (and of course, the ArseKissing media will call it honorable and principled, and BigByrd will wave his version of the Constitution around when he takes 2 hours to say five words about it).

Good point. Most of the people working for minimum wage are HS students. I remember working for minimum wage in High School. I drove to my job at Burger King in a European luxury sedan that my boss couldn't afford.

Real fulltime jobs with responsibility, that require any semblance of skill or experience (you don't have to be an Ivy League grad to be valuable) pay 5X minimum wage. But heck, that's Socialism for you. Just slack off and the left wing Gubmint will take care of you regardless:

"Most working families in this country are not on minimum wage... Kennedy must be in the Scotch again"

If a "working family" is making minninum wage, chances are they aren't paying one cent in taxes. They get EITC which can erase any income tax, social security and their health insurance deductions for the year. This family is a myth though. The family I described is a real family(not married couple, with kids). They are making well over minninum wage, have health care in group coverage and are "earning" well over half again their wages on the taxpayers back. I don't know of any employer in my town paying minninum wage. School kids are getting $8 an hour at the fast food joints part time. How can this SOB be so passionate about something so meaningless?

It is an economic fact.....whenever the minimum wage is increased, some folks earning the minimum wage get laid off. This I know because I am one of those evil employers who pay the minimum wage to some of my employees.....and when it no longer makes economic sense to employ some folks at minimum wage.....they go!

It will take a few more years and eventually I will see that I again can pay the minimum wage to a few folks to do a specific job....a job that is worth no more to me than what the minimum wage is right now. With inflation and normal cost of living price increases I will again be able to see an economic (to me) advantage in hiring a few more minimum wage employees. But for now....they're gone....cause it makes no economic sense (to me) to employ them at "that" rate to do "that" job. I'll do it myself!

There is indeed a law of diminishing returns, and you see it in action each time this socialistic tomfoolery is put in effect. This year the California minimum wage was increased to $7.50 an hour. I had some employees making $6.75 an hour. The value...(to me)....of their continued employment did not magically increase overnight (12/31 to 1/1) by $.75 an hour. So, they are no longer employed by me. They may be working somewhere else by now....but the jobs I offered at $6.75 an hour disappeared with the stupidity of the minimum wage increase. Yes, the idea of a "minimum wage" is stupid. There are many jobs I can imagine that would be worth much less than the "the Minimum". Three, for sure, that disappeared a few weeks ago.

Now, I know it doesn't sound like too much to a lot of folks.....but three people getting a $.75 increase in pay (for no increase in productivity) would have cost me (out of my pocket) 3 X .75 X 40 (hours per week) an additional $90.00 per week. 90 X 52 = an additional $4680.00 per year.

Those three jobs were not worth (to me) an additional $90.00 a week. All three employees were young, single people..... living at home. These jobs were discretionary on my part. Other employers have now had to increase prices to their customers to afford these same wage increases. Stupid!

By the way....I have other employees....that have skills and experience, and they make much more than minimum.

In a perfect society....with no government regulation of the supply/demand equation (labor)....I would pay as little as the market would allow. This is the same thing that you would do also. We "all" do it everyday...with "all" purchases or expenditures.

Yeah he did! He washed his daddy's car once when he was a teen and was paid handsomely for the work! Part of the remuneration included admission tickets to the local house of horizontal recreation! That's where all Kennedys got their start....

I disagree. In a perfect society all employers would treat their employees the same way they treated themselves, or better. I always paid my men better than market wages.

Well.....you're just a Saint....what can I say. Please let me go along next time you buy a car so I can witness you paying more than the asking price, not trying to "make a deal"!

Labor is also a commodity....just like gasoline, kumquats and pork bellies. The fairest wage is the wage agreed on....not coerced by government regulation.

My money is best spent providing for my family's security and well being....not paying top dollar in a labor market so I can feel good about myself.

Kennedy puts all the blame on recent delays in passing the minimum wage increase on Republicans. Surely it would have passed sooner if Nancy Pelosi hadn't tried to exempt American Samoa. The big companies there are tuna companies. They are headquartered in Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco. Talk about corruption! If anyone needs an increase in the minimum wage, it is the people of American Samoa. They have few employers, and can't exactly drive to the next state.

For the US generally, with its many employers and geographical mobility (we're not a small island), there is competition for labor. As a result, hiking the minimum wage merely chops off the bottom rung of the ladder of success. Studies have shown that those most affected are black, inner city teenagers, whose unemployment rate goes up.

This increase in the minimum wage that he's proposing is almost 50% larger than the entire minimum wage was when I was paid minimum wage. (For about a month, even summer hires got a raise if they stuck with it for that long).

Then for two school years I made sub minimum wage working in the recreation area (bowling alley, pool, billards, etc) area of the Student Union. Moved on to computer operator for a warehouse/distribution company.

I saw some statistics showing percentage of population in different wage groupings. One group was below the minimum wage. This is a reminder that laws are not always implemented. Just because we pass a law, that doesn't make it so.

Congressman Charlie Rangel worked as a young man for free - to get the experience. Perhaps that should have been illegal too. Why, everyone should get a wage! Zero dollars per hour is a wage too, and it should be illegal!!! (sarcasm)

Well.....you're just a Saint....what can I say. Please let me go along next time you buy a car so I can witness you paying more than the asking price, not trying to "make a deal"!

I have paid more for a car than I could have in the past. I drive a lot and need to have a good relationship with my dealer and his service department. If my first impression with the dealer is overly confrontational and accusatory, imagine how awkward the second, third, and fourth visits will be.

All too often, people think that pricing is arbitrary and that business men set their prices to try to rip people off. Most folks don't understand all the costs that go into a particular price, and I don't begrudge people their fair wages or commissions. You get what you pay for is synonymous with "loving your neighbor like you like to be loved", IMHO.

I've been on both sides of this equation. Customers that respect my talents and abilities are happy to pay invoices from my employer. They tend to pay their employees a little more and also treat them better. Their labs are happy places. The labs where my customers are focused completely on the bottom line tend to treat invoices like pure fiction, negotiate unreasonable prices that make the transaction uncomfortable, treat their own employees terribly, have a high level of turnover, and generally have a distasteful atmosphere in their labs.

I do agree with your points on the minimum wage, however. Those who favor raising this arbitrarily have no clue about business. You people who employ folks have a fixed budget for overhead and you are either forced to hike your prices or shrink your overhead. Then, those who favored the increase act all surprised at the unemployment rate or inflation. You gotta sell a lot of 99 cent Jr. Woppers to pay for 5 people's hourly wages.

I watched some of the funeral coverage yesterday and found it interesting that one of Teddy’s “endearing” habits was lambasting his colleagues on the Senate floor and then smiling and laughing with them afterward like nothing ever happened. I don’t think the people who told these stories even knew how off-putting they were. Was Ted totally insincere or did he think it was funny to be insulting and cruel?
