The latest U.N. report shows the "warming" debate is far from settled.

Last week's headlines about the United Nations' latest report on global warming were typically breathless, predicting doom and human damnation like the most fervent religious evangelical. Yet the real news in the fourth assessment from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) may be how far it is backpedaling on some key issues. Beware claims that the science of global warming is settled.

The document that caused such a stir was only a short policy report, a summary of the full scientific report due in May. Written mainly by policymakers (not scientists) who have a stake in the issue, the summary was long on dire predictions. The press reported the bullet points, noting that this latest summary pronounced with more than "90% confidence" that humans have been the main drivers of warming since the 1950s, and that higher temperatures and rising sea levels would result.

Shouldn't we all be Celebrating Global Warming??? after all if mankind is responsible and there is no return (too late) Didn't we successfully stop the next Ice Age from destroying all of mankind???

I haven't noticed any organization touting this line yet, or is it possible that the next Ice Age is just being postponed?, which is still a cause for celebration.

So, when this consensus agrees that there will never ever be another Ice Age on this Planet, we should all stand and celebrate our success for eliminating the possibility of another Ice Age. After all, does mankind have a better chance of survival during a warming period or an Ice Age??. As for myself I will take Warming anyday over freezing to Death.

WHY is "global warming" supposed to be a bad thing?

Move away from the ocean front, if you are worried about rising sea levels. Or build your ocean property on stilts, with pilings sunk to bedrock. Invest in hilltop properties back from the ocean, it will come up to you soon enough.

Or grow fins and gills.

What the hell, growing bananas in Labrador doesn't sound so bad.

Interesting point. I guess we can declare the matter settled.

Even the National Review fails to give Bush his due. He pushed for more observation and data vs junk science based on computer dreaming.

As soon as there is a democrat in the white house, global warming, like the homless, will not be a problem.

Global Warming is just another example in history of scientific junk. Of course, history is full of scientific junk and shows why science should not be trusted on matters like global warming.

Someone explain to me how global warming is going to cause the oceans to rise?

1) Higher ocean temperatures will INCREASE EVAPORATION OF WATER into the atmosphere. The water vapor in the air encounters colder temperatures at the poles. This causes condensation and PRECIPITATION: MORE snow, sleet and rain (resulting in ice) being deposited at the poles.

Global warming will INCREASE, not decrease the amount of snow and ice at the poles.

2) The temperature of Antarctica on the coast in Summer is -15 degrees C. If the earth's average temperature increases by 4 degrees (mostly at the equator, not the poles), then Antarctica would increae to -11 degrees C. ICE FREEZES at 0 degrees C (must EXCEED 0 degrees to melt).

So now is ice going to melt at -11 degrees Centigrade?

3) The oceans are gigantic. All the ice at the poles would not make a noticeable difference in the level of the oceans.

4) NOTE: Individual islands and land masses may be rising and falling ON THE EARTH's CRUST. You may see an island getting higher in the water or sinking because of GEOLOGIC ACTIVITY and the movement of the tectonic plates. Don't be fooled by that. And beaches will erode because teh earth has been perpetually in motion since it was formed. Changes on the coastline will never stop.

Didn't Al Gore claim that sea levels would rise 20-30 feet by 2100? Looks like the current prediction by the IPCC is 17 inches, which is less than half what their prediction was 5 years ago. At that rate it'll be nil in another 5 years. Keep up the great work IPCC!
