Thunderous booms were heard across Baghdad as US and Iraqi forces launched a major operation in a Sunni insurgent-infested neighborhood on Thursday, a spokesman said.
Iraqi Army Brig. Qassim Moussawi, spokesman for the Iraqi commander of the Baghdad security plan, said a joint US-Iraqi force had moved into the southern neighborhood of Dora.
The statement came a day after thousands of US troops swept house-to-house through mostly Shiite areas near a militia stronghold in northeastern Baghdad in the opening phase of the long-awaited Baghdad security crackdown.

I wish we had a commander in Iraq and a SoD two years ago that instead of thinking we could slide out of Iraq after training X number of Iraqi troops instead wanted to kick ass and win.

I can tell you, when it flys over your head at .95 mach at 500 ft off the ground, its really impressive. You don't hear it till its right on top of you.

Oh yea, We were on the dry lake bed with our truck full of gear and I was on the roof looking for the plane. I knew it was coming but I had to locate it. It came out of no where and roared (I mean ROARED) over my head. I thought it would hit me it looke dthat low. I almost soiled my BDUs.
I can only imagine what Al Sadr must be thinking.

And there was a lot of air action yeaterday, bombing IED planters, in Baghdad, which was considered too rough in the old Rules of Engagement. There were at least 3 such attacks yesterday.
When it flys over SE Tennessee at Mach 1+ the shock wave knocks stuff off the walls of my hangar......

We had a big old cement bunker up on "Rocket Ridge" which overlooks the flightline and the dry lake bed. They used to test roickets engines up there.
When the planes would break mach 1, the walls of the bunker would visably flex. The first dozen times that it happened, it scared the bejezzes out of me. After that, I never even noticed it.
