WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Democratic-controlled House issued a symbolic rejection of President Bush's decision to deploy more troops to Iraq on Friday, opening an an epic confrontation between Congress and commander in chief over an unpopular war that has taken the lives of more than 3,100 U.S. troops.

The vote on the nonbinding measure was 246-182.

Resolution criticized President Bush for his decision to send more troops to Iraq is a rare admonishment of a wartime commander-in-chief.

"The passage of this legislation signal a change in direction that will end the fighting and bring our troops home," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said before the vote when she endorsed the measure that takes issue with Bush's decision to send an additional 21,500 U.S. troops into battle.

I want to see these people be honest, and lay it on the table with real money, or lack thereof.

Exactly - the key point in the CNN story (and about the whole non-binding resolution in general) is that it's only symbolic. IOW, no substance ("symbolism over substance" ... where have I heard that one before?), and only designed as a bone to throw to the Nutroots and other Dem Base groups.

The best approach to this from a pro-Bush standpoint is to keep hammering on it just being symbolic and that the Dems lack the b*lls to actually do something that will matter.

Ugh! What a waste of time...but I suppose spending their time on NON-BINDING resolutions is better than them passing something hideous that is binding.

I'll be interested to know who the 17 cowards are.

NEW: Seventeen GOP members joined Demcrats in supporting the resolution

All it takes for evil to triumph is for Republicans to befriend, act like, and give in to, Democrats. What is the point of voting for these schmucks if they act like this? Oh that's right, we are Republicant's Frist, I mean first, above all.

Dems: Iraq Is a Defeat

Hopefully, the Senate will not allow a vote. McConnell is one of the real good guys.

I htink your statement is incorrect. The dems arn on strong defense issues and other points. Not anti-war.

Rush in fact covered this one day on his program.

You have been co-oped by the MSM.

The 17 are probably doing the will of the people in their district. That's the real truth to be dealt with. They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.
