Syria on Tuesday called for talks with the United States to cover all areas of contention in the Middle East, a state newspaper has said.
"Syria wants to engage in a dialogue with the United States concerning all issues: Palestine, the Golan Heights, Iraq, Lebanon as well as anything else to do with Arab countries," an editorial in the official Ath-Thawra said Tuesday. "Syria insists on a serious and profound dialogue on all subjects without exception," it added.
Ferret Face getting nervous...?
Ok. Let's start with Saddaam's WMD hidden in your deserts...
Talk to Israel about the Golan Heights.
Wonder if Syria thinks we will use them as target practice before going after against Iran for their Iraq attacks on our troops.
Actually, now might be a good time to talk to Assad. I hear there is some real friction between Syria and Iran at this moment and we should take advantage of that.
Sounds like this has potential.
Could it be he has a great view of some carriers?
We could stand to do a good JLOTS over the beaches of Syria straight into Iran.
Is flying "the bird" considered profound? Maybe if we hang our shoes off of it?!?
Maybe Assad has concluded we're really gonna do Iran, which could leave him the last islamo-fascist standing.
That's the official line. There are no Saddam WMD's. Saddam was our guy sorta. He was getting long in the tooth and we needed to intercede before Iran engineered one of those spiffy people islamic revolutions in Sadr City and watched it expand. Our top guys know democratization of the ME in the short term is going to make things worse. Why? Because the idiots over there will vote for what makes them feel good, not what'll make them get ahead. So we let the idiots put a name and a face and most importantly institutional responsibility on the terrorists. We let them have enough rope to hang themselves with their own barbaric stupidity.
Nazism was cheered by just about every German before it ultimately bit them in the arse.
"Do you acknowledge the right of Israel to exist?"
Whatever the motivation, at least there is an entity there to have discussion with. Unlike islam.
My first thought when I read this was this: Syria is misreading our internal debate on Iraq as a weak-willed American belief that we are losing, and of our newfound desire to give our enemies in the MidEast concessions.
Then, I realized that if the Dems had their way, this would not be a misreading at all.
I agree, but I think we should draw the line at the Golan Heights, unless Israel is represented at the talks as well. Cutting Israel out of the talks when it comes to land under their control is a mistake similar to Chamberlain's when he cut up Czechoslovakia in the 30's. It sets a dangerous precedent.
Assad is no Islamist, but rather a Ba'athist.
His dad massacred thousands of Islamists at Hama.
The Alawites see the writing on the wall. Iran is a greater threat than is the US.
What else would they like to discuss?
And maybe that is pure make believe BS to keep us talking and buy time for Iran to finish getting the Bomb.
So like the Leftists all they got to do to con the Dinocons is make retorical kissy faces at them and the Do Nothings will fall all over themselves to play nice with the thugs?
Sorry, Syria is part of the problem not part of the solution, this is nothing but a bluff. A PR con game to buy time and keep us talking.
The friction is related mostly to events in Lebanon.
If our chicken-shiite State Department wasn't such a failure in supporting the USA, maybe...but I do not trust this bunch of left-over, dead-head diplos including Condo Rice to do the job! Let the Special Forces do the talkin' with Syria.
The secular fascists and religious fascists are two sides of the same coin, imho. Assad has had no trouble in the past working with the Iranians and Hezbollah, who are Shia (we've been assured that could never happen), Islamic Jihad, and most ironic of all, Hamas, named for his father's massacre.
Syria is no match at all for Israel with or without the Golan today.
If a deal is stuck it needs to be done right. There are ways of making sure Syria could never use the Golan to attack Israel.
Making the Golan a non militarized zone with Israel agents allowed to come and go freely would be the best way. At the first sign Syria is breaching the agreement its over and Israel kicks Syria's ass once again.
Joint Logistics Over The Shore
My opinion is that they saw all of the Democrats crying for engagement so they went ahead and said "Yes, please engage us - don't be a warmongering country." This doesn't mean they will drop their support for terrosists one iota, it is just a PR vistory for them as they can say they tried diplomacy, but the big bad US wouldn't budge. This is how the MSM will portray it even though the officials in Washington have secret goods on the Syrians with respect to their support of terrorists and their rat lines. F SYRIA
1. Immediately stop giving any type of support to terrorists in Iraq and those terrorists coming to Iraq form Syria.
2. Immediately surrender all the Baath leadership hiding in Syria.
3. Immediately surrender all your WMD weapons and stop all your WMD programs. If you have Saddam regime WMD or the precursors to make WMD you must surrender it immediately.
3. Immediately stop funding and supporting Hizballah terrorists in Lebanon, Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorist groups in the Palestinian territories.
4. Immediately stop any interference in Lebanon affairs.
5. Immediately surrender all the people in your ruling terrorist regime including yourself for your assassination of Lebanese leaders who including Lebanese PM Rafik Al Hariri.
That is what we should have done in 2003.
As of right now such demands would be laughed at thanks to our Congress and the mood in the country. Yes, they do pay close attention to our politics.
Probably not. They only talk as a form of deception. It will buy them and Iran time to complete their evil plans for Israel and the U.S.
Terrorist Assad knows now that the democrats are not nearly as powerful as he thought in stopping President Bush plan for victory in Iraq and that is why he is asking for deep dialogue with the US.
This is interesting. I wonder what's driving it? All the appeasement talk from the Dems should be convincing them to walk away from the negotiating table, NOT towards it.
