Veterans Vow To Protect Vietnam Memorial During Rally ( Gathering of Eagles )
WJLA TV 7 ^ | Thursday, February 22, 2007 | Scott Thuman

Posted on 02/22/2007 5:40:08 PM PST by kristinn

Veterans plan to protect the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington during an anti-war protest next month.

They fear demonstrators may deface the memorial, even though organizers say they have absolutely no intention of doing that.

Two veterans groups say they're concerned because some anti-war protesters spray-painted graffiti on the steps of the U.S. Capitol in January.

The black granite walls of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial bear the names of all those who were killed during the Vietnam conflict. The head of the veterans group known as rolling thunder says his members plan to protect the memorial and, quote, "support our troops."

The March 17th protest is to mark the fourth anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

The biggest mistake that these marxist bastards can make is to f$uck with the wall. There will be hell to pay I can assure you. I hope that they are not dumb enough to make that mistake.

Love,
Jarhead

101st Airborne Ranger, Vietnam 1967-1968. I can't be there, I have a good excuse, but it's not good enough for me. I have patients and I don't get a vacation until the summertime. I'm a doctor, and as much as I want to be there, I can't. These people depend on me. Much like my comrades depended on me so many years ago.

This is really getting to me! I want to be there to defend that Wall so bad it hurts. I've been there twice, and I broke down twice. That is indeed a place of honor. I saw the names of men that I served with, men that I tried to save, and couldn't. Men that saved my life and the lives of other men, at the cost of their own. Men that were the bravest I have had the honor of serving with, and men that were my brothers.

As I write this I look upon a portrait, framed above my desk, from where I write. It is of a man in a business suit leaning on that Wall with one hand. The reflection from the other side is of a group of combat GIs reaching for their side of the Wall, the other side. My wife hates that portrait. She says it's so sad. I tell her that it makes me feel good. It says I will never, ever forget those brave men, those friends, those brothers, As long as that memory lives within me, I am a better man. These are the men that gave the strength and courage, and the full measure of their lives, these are the men that gave me courage and freedom. I may not have survived had it not been for them.

I owe these men the last ounce of courage of my life to defend their place of honor.

Odd reporting.
No names are given, though two people were quoted.
And it seems to me 'rolling thunder' should be capitalized.

Thanks for the up-date. I wish I still live there - I would diffidently be in attendance. On Memorial Day 2002, I took 2 of my grandkids to the Pentagon (north parking) to see the staging area for the Rolling Thunder – Wow – when 100 and 10 thousand Harleys crank up - everybody seems to notice.

P.S. To Kristinn - My wife and I attended the 2000 Inaugural Ball and we were pleased to meet you there. God bless you for your work.

If you go. View the wall at night. I took my brother, also a Vietnam Vet, and watch him cry as he reviewed his private thoughts.

There are also many other thing in Washington to see. It's all free. Do the Smithsonians, call your congressman and get tickets to the White House, Congress, Pentagon, FBI and others, and then visit all the art galleries.

Remember to wear good walking shoes and bring your camera. I lived there 22 years and still didn’t see everything. You’ll love it.

I was there during the planning and building of the “Wall”, and remember the controversy about it. But until you experience it, you can’t appreciate the genius of the gal who designed it. It’s worth a visit.

Many have had the experience of taking a picture and finding out later they were in the photo along with the names of their buddies on the Wall.

It is un-nerving ~ at first.

I have been to the Wall twice also. The war ended before I was needed, and my lottery number was high.

I have read and reread your second paragraph of your post, and I am moved to tears.Thank you for describing what those names meant to you.

I respect those names. But they were real flesh and blood to you.

Thank you for your service then, and for your continuing service to your fellow man, in medicine.

Timydnuc, that portrait you talked about--where I take my 76 year old mother-in-law for physical therapy--there is a huge copy of that picture front and center in the reception area. It is a most sobering, but poignant reminder neve to break faith with those who gave all.

You'll be there on the 17th in spirit. You friends on the other side will understand.

Age of Hooper's first video from the press conference is up on YouTube. If you click on the first link, that will take you to the Age of Hooper blog report, and he will update that post as the other videos go live.

The second link is to the YouTube video of the Workers World Party/ANSWER spokesboy, Richard Becker, making a fool of himself after the presser ended.

"...The Government better call out the National Guard on this one , it looks like there may be hell to pay..."

Ah hell, let the Capital Police handle it. They really showed how good they were last time. Give them another chance.

OTOH, we could send the Alaska National Guard! They could leave Alaska on March 16th - be there in plenty of time ........... FRegards

If I remember correctly the Capitol Police had things pretty well in hand last time until their idiot leaders told themto step aside. Besides the Wall doesnt fall under the jurisdiction of the Capitol Police. It is under the authority of U.S.Park Police, and Metropolitan.

Yeah, they have no PLANS on defacing the memorial. It will just be a spur of the moment thing.

Hold a Rally in your home town on another day. Its time for action! Not whining about where you cannot go and cannot be. Do what you can where you can when you can. Thats enough.
