Gun Remark Kills Outdoorsman's Career (WP)
The Washington Post ^ | 24 FEB 07 | Blaine Harden

SEATTLE - Modern hunters rarely become more famous than Jim Zumbo. A mustachioed, barrel-chested outdoors entrepreneur who lives in a log cabin near Yellowstone National Park, he has spent much of his life writing for prominent outdoors magazines, delivering lectures across the country and starring in cable TV shows about big-game hunting in the West.

Zumbo's fame, however, has turned to black-bordered infamy within America's gun culture -- and his multimedia success has come undone. It all happened in the past week, after he publicly criticized the use of military-style assault rifles by hunters, especially those gunning for prairie dogs.

This statement is the "journalist's" effort to represent the gun culture to the masses. I use the term "journalist" advisedly.

Educate yourself. These other fine people have given you hints about the truth. Or do you wish to be blind to the truth.

Just a thought: a simple bolt-action Enfield MkIII 2a in .308 is more than sufficient for term limits enforcement. You can bust milk jugs at 400 yards even with the crappy stock iron sights. All it takes is a little practice.

My point is, don't worry over his lost "career". The left will take good care of him now - he is far too valuable and useful to them to let this opportunity pass.

Probably. We will be treated to a lot of "sportsmen" who will say that no one needs an "assault weapon," no one needs a "sniper rifle," no one needs a .50 caliber rifle, no one needs a .30 caliber rifle, no one needs a .223 rifle, no one needs a bolt-action rifle, no one needs a handgun, no one needs a shotgun that sells for less than $5,000... The Fudds will eat it up, even though their shotguns will be up for confiscation.

"I doubt that I select a high-powered assault weapon for that."

What you don't seem to know is that what you are referring to as "assault weapons" typically use much LOWER POWERED cartridges that commonly used in hunting rifles.

I'll see if I can find some relative pics.

If that's your collection, I humbly submit that you consider a sport-utility rifle chambered in .308 (or two or three). And one or more scoped, accurized bolt rifles in that caliber, if not greater.

You don't have to see "overthrow the government" in the second amendment.
As long as you can see "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
The rest will take care of itself!
Bozos like Booth, Oswald, Hinckley, and others figured it out. You use the arms to attack the human leadership element of the government. Shooting at the monuments accomplishes little. It's perfectly fine if you don't understand how having the right to bear arms protects you from tyranny. It only takes a few people to figure it out for it to be effective. Do the math with me. One president and a hand full of department heads plus nine supreme court justices plus 100 senators plus 435 representatives is still far less than 300 million potentially disgruntled citizens with the right to be packing heat.
Have you ever wondered why disarming the general public is ALWAYS a priority of tyrants? Think about it! Eventually it will come to you. If you still don't get how the second amendment enables us to "overthrow the government" I think I can break it down even more simply, but spare me the work and just think....politicians run government....politicians ain't bulletproof....guns can fire bullets....guns are often referred to as arms....lots of armed people are often referred to as an army....If the peoples army can kill the leading politicians then the governments army usually switches sides and joins the people to form one big happy winning team....and thus begins the battle to see who will be the new boss. In french it is called "coup d'etat" some people call it revolution but, regardless of what you call it, it helps to have arms to get the job done.

A very slanted article, that misses the whole reason for the anger against Zumbo.

I'm shocked, shocked that this could possibly be the case, given that this is the WP.

Ted Nugent has used his message boards to get Zumbo's apology out. You can read both Nuge and Zumbo's comments here:

This is a grand "Spotlight the Cockroach" moment my friends. Use it wisely & frwd motion will be ours. Thank you all for your input, now let us UPGRADE on, shall we!"

After reading Zumbo's 3rd apology and Nuge's comments, I believe his suggestion above is the wisest way to handle this. As I have said previously in this post, I believe there is a strong possibility of Zumbo being recruited to work for the anti-gun forces. Now that he is on record as supporting the proper meaning of the Second Amendment, it would be good tactics to "forgive" him and keep him ostensibly on "our side". Whether he truly means it or not is secondary to the benefits of prempting that possibility.

I'd like to add, I'm surprised and extremely gratified to see this positively Machiavellian streak in Nuge... /grin

"Somewhere along the line we lost our rights to bear whatever arms we need to overthrow our government."

I think that "Right" came into question back in 61 when a bunch of Democrats down in South Carolina thought it would be a good idea to fire on Fort Sumpter.

I've always thought that Gewehr translated to rifle. The German army from the 1870's through WW1 has designated their infantry rifles with models such as Infantry Gewehr Model 71, Gewehr Model 88, and of course the famous Gewehr 98.

"In 1968 the Kongrss banned "destructive devices" including anything over .5 cal"

Destructive devices are not "banned" under Federal law. They only require registration and a $200.00 transfer or "making" tax.

"As hunters, we don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them. . . . I'll go so far as to call them 'terrorist' rifles."

Funny, I alway thought of mine as anti-terrorist rifles.

Is the intent of the 2nd to secure a free state from outsiders or from insiders? I really don't know, but always thought it was the latter.
