Asked if the EU safety committee had asked PIA to replace its old aircraft with those made in Europe, they said that such messages were never delivered formally.

They said that PIA had decided to buy airbuses to use as a bargaining chip to minimise the impact of pressure in the form of temporary restrictions on its fleet.

"You can have everything you want, but that's my final offer," is bribery, not bargaining. Then again, putting a gun to someone's head, ie denying landing rights, is less exhortation than extortion.

I'll bet that Karachi to London is,by far,PIA's most important and profitable route...so it's not difficult to understand how the EU's blackmail might work.

And of course the EU controlled WTO is going to investigate this blatant EU corruption aggressively. NOT!

airbus always had a negotiating advantage with small, third world, state run airlines. mostly because of their readiness to bribe government officials. guess someone in pakistan "stayed bought".

The EU also banned PIA's Airbus A310s as well as PIA's 747s.
