Asked if the EU safety committee had asked PIA to replace its old aircraft with those made in Europe, they said that such messages were never delivered formally.

“As they say actions speak louder than words, the EU in particular had been effectively sending message since the news about a looming ban on the PIA fleet broke out last month,” they said.

They said that PIA had decided to buy airbuses to use as a bargaining chip to minimise the impact of pressure in the form of “temporary restrictions” on its fleet.

"You can have everything you want, but that's my final offer," is bribery, not bargaining. Then again, putting a gun to someone's head, ie denying landing rights, is less exhortation than extortion.

I'll bet that Karachi to London is,by far,PIA's most important and profitable route...so it's not difficult to understand how the EU's blackmail might work.

EU Bans Pakistan Airlines Flights.

PIA is shopping for new aircraft because they can't maintain their current fleet adequately.

"...the EU's executive arm, removed Phuket Air"

Ah, Phuket. Buy an airbus.

airbus always had a negotiating advantage with small, third world, state run airlines. mostly because of their readiness to bribe government officials. guess someone in pakistan "stayed bought".

The EU also banned PIA's Airbus A310s as well as PIA's 747s.
