Change your user name of “Illogical Me”. There is an appeal process going on and the President will wait until the appeal goes on. If he pardons him now, the President will be fighting the Libby issue with liberals more than he is fighting the war with liberals and terrorists. The nation cannot afford this, the President will pardon Libby but when the time will come, this time is not before the 2008 elections.

It would look incredibly improper. He should at least wait until January of 2009.

Exactly the opposite. Admit we are about three years late showing some ba!!s. Bush, through the Justice Department, have let too many things go that should have happened to the RAT party. Continue and he will have lost a huge part of the Party.

Agree and I do not think that the President should pardon him before the 2008 elections it will be a very bad political move.

Do you have winamp or another player that plays mp3? Cut and paste the url in it. That's the only way I got it to work.

This time is disagree with you totally. The war was with the RATS many years ago. We have lost so much that now is the time to stand up and fight. Maybe you forgot that every battle we surrender to is a battle that many Republicans will just give up. Want that, like 2006. There are some in our Party that need reinforcement. You surprise me, are we not at at war with the liberals and the terrorist now?

He should burn in the hottest corner of hell for this witch hunt.

I haven't heard such defaming of a prosecutor, and belittling of perjury, since Carville was flacking for Clinton.

That Libby will go to jail, while Sandy Burglar, William Jefferson, and Bill and Hillary Clinton are running free shows what a LOUSY system of justice prevails in our country.

My thoughts exactly! Is the common denominator Ashcroft??????

We are at war with liberals and the terrorists but pardoning Libby now will be a extremely huge distraction for the President whose main goal is to fight and win the war on terror and not to give emotional satisfaction to some angry conservatives.

My uninformed guess: December 24, 2008 at 9pm, after the Bush Family Christmas party at Camp David, the President will issue a pardon before turning in for the evening. A press release will be made at 11 pm.

So! There are lots of attacks the RATS can do and right up to the 2008 elections. First waiting until the appeal does nothing. If Libby wins his appeal, then the RATS will set up a committee and start an investigation. This sham will be in the MSM and maybe even televised and the crap will go on and on for months. Hollywierd will make a movie. It will be a way for the RATS to make speech's and sound so good. Republicans will have nothing to say as usual. There is no win win way out of this and based on some of the thing the jury has said, they were idiots. Bush needs to pardon him now because no matter what, the toasting has already began. Maybe a pardon now will slow the roast to a few months not right up to the 2008.

The last thing Libby needs right now is a presidential pardon. That should only come after other legal avenues are pursued -- because it's far better to be exonerated through the legal process than to be pardoned after a conviction sticks.

For example . . .

Oliver North came out of the Iran-Contra "scandal" smelling like roses after his conviction was thrown out and all charges against him dismissed by an appellate court. As such, there was never any need for President George H.W. Bush to issue a pardon on his behalf in the waning days of the first Bush administration (as it did for other Iran-Contra notables like Caspar Weinberger, Elliott Abrams and Robert McFarlane).

If logic is based on assumptions, and a lot of assumptions are floating around now, how about this scenario.
1. Libby is offered a hot deal by Fitz, one day work release or whatever, in return for fingering The VP and or Rove. No uncertainty about a mumbled promise of a pardon, no ugly jail time.
2.Cheney resigns before indictment and after fingering W, and Rudy is appointed.
3. W walks the plank(resigns) and Rudy is President.

This would make many people very happy, no one does time, and this general game plan worked for the RMN situation.

So, Logical me, you may be correct and a pardon right now could be the best thing.

The executive branch needs to stay out of this until it runs its course.

Thanks for the statement. I get so tired of FReepers knee-jerking over everything. It's nice that there's always cooler heads prevailing after the first dozen or so screaming posts.

Not off topic at all... The academic community is one of the last bastions of commie-sympathizing, demagogory (sp?) and politically correct cr*pola. Like our public schools, academia is spared from any kind of "free market competition" and has become insulated and delusional... A Democrat heaven!

Absolutely right on the mark, JaneNC... "What was the charge"... and this guy, former Washington Post reporter Denis Collins, proudly talks about how the jury used detailed post-it notes to track what Libby had told to each journalist and when, and the testimony before the Grand Jury, and the conflicts. What I didn't hear mentioned by this Bozo (pardon to all the good "Bozo's" out there) was whether Mr. Collins had likewise traced (with post-it notes) all the memory lapses by all the witnesses in this trial. Somehow I doubt it. This guy was helping to create history -- leading a ignorant DC jury through the paces of bringing the Bush Administration to heel. Disgusting.
