Giuliani leads McCain by 16 percentage points, a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll finds.

WASHINTON (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has opened up a double-digit lead over Arizona Sen. John McCain in the race for the GOP presidential nomination, a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll out Monday indicates.

Thirty-four percent of registered Republicans support Giuliani, while 18 percent support McCain, the poll finds. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are each tied at nine percent in the poll.

In a similar CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll conducted at the end of January, McCain trailed Giuliani by only six percentage points, registering 26 percent to Giuliani's 34 percent.

get it ?"---

So will terrorism. What's your point? Do you really fail to see the imminent threat Rudy poses to the Conservative movement?

I am not ok with a pro abortion candidate. I am pro life,. but I am willing to look past that stuff and vote for the person who will be strong against our enemy in World War 3.

Sadly, abortions will still be happening in 2010 no matter who is president in 2009.

Well, you know, child-molesting will probably happen then too, so let's elect a leader who FAVORS the practice and wants to use tax money to pay for it. After all, there's nothing any of us can do about it, is there?

Get it???

It's a poll of adults - meaningless. Needs to be likely primary voters to be taken seriously as a snapshot.

You'll notice it has the usual CNN numbers - every Conservative is viewed very negatively, and every Liberal is viewed positively.

I think this poll is likely referring to former governor Tommy Thompson (at 1%).

Really? How can you trust Rudy on anything? He is a liberal and a liar. What do you "see" that makes a gun-grabbing babykiller acceptable to you?

The one and only question this 2008 election should be about is which candidate will be the best CIC

Giuliani
McCain
Gingrich
Romney
Pataki
Gilmore
Brownback
Hagel
Paul
Huckabee
Tancredo
Thompson
Hunter

It's a question I have yet to find an answer to.

If the phone call I got from the McCain solicitation guy earlier today is any example no wonder McCain is going down fast. This guy despite my saying no I had no interest in donating, could not stand the old coot, continued on and on asking me why I wouldn't contribute to a good Republican. I promptly told him that my interpretation of good and his were vastly different. I hung up while he yammered on.

How does McCain fare against Obama and hillary for the Dem's nod? Seems to me he'd stand a better chance there.

If this were PRE 9/11. I would not vote for Rudy. Because he was there on 9/11 and has a STRONG stand against terrorism. I will vote for him.

I’m pro-choice. I’m pro-gay rights, Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. “No, I have not supported that, and I don’t see my position on that changing,” he responded. Source: CNN.com, “Inside Politics” Dec 2, 1999 http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Rudy_Giuliani_Abortion.htm

ANDERSON COOPER 360 DEGREES (November 14, 2006)

RUDY GIULIANI (R), FORMER MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY: I'm pro- choice. I'm pro-gay rights.

KING: Giuliani supports a woman's right to an abortion, and back in 1999, he opposed a federal ban on late-term abortions.

GIULIANI: No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position on that changing.

KING: Immigration could be another presidential landmine. Back in 1996, Mayor Giuliani went to federal court to challenge new federal laws requiring the city to inform the federal government about illegal immigrants.

JEFFREY: He took the side of illegal immigrants in New York City against the Republican Congress.

KING: Giuliani opposes same-sex marriage but as mayor, he supported civil unions and extending health and other benefits to gay couples. He also supported the assault weapons ban and other gun control measures opposed by the National Rifle Association.

GIULIANI: I'm in favor of gun control. I'm pro-choice.

Republican Big-Wigs Support Pro-Abortion Event in NY

Pro-abortion Governor George Pataki and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who also supports unrestricted abortion, are co-chairs of the 2000 Choice Award Presentation to be held on May 30 at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. The event is sponsored by the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition, a group that is campaigning for the removal of the pro-life plank from the Republican National Platform.
