Please tell me that happened after a "guitar Mass."

That happened 18+ years after I last attended, so I have know idea what was going on then. I do remember my Mom boycotting lettuce at the supermarket in support of Cesar Chavez.. as suggested by the Pastor.

I really, really like Pope Benedict--he is a traditionalist--exactly what the church needs. A shepard who will take the flock back to it foundations and get rid of all the liberal nonsense that, just like everywhere else, has taken a frighteningly strong foothold.

I love the Mass in Latin and I love Gregorian Chant.

I'm sorry to hear about your church (which looks like it must have been very nice). Unfortunately, I think it was just an accident. If Somebody Up There was expressing His opinions on modern "liturgical" music, the entire US would be littered with the burned-out hulks of churches.

Our men's chorus at church has been practicing some Gregorian chants. We have yet to perform any, but they sound absolutely great! However, if we had a massive cavernous place to sing in it would sound fantastic.

Ask Teddy Kennedy if you can borrow his belly.

Barbershoppers have long since discovered tiled bathrooms as a great place to ring 4-part a cappella harmony. No kidding. At the bbshop conventions, you can usually find a pickup quartet singing common songs just for fun in the host hotel bathrooms :-).

Some music was absolutely made to be song in a large church - like Monteverdi's "Vespera Della Beata Vergine" - stunning music.

Our local priest, Father Sicola, has been a favorite of the community for years.

However, he has been passed over time and again for promotions in the church even though he is a dedicated servant. When he could take no more, he went to Cardinal Law and asked him personally why.

The cardinal replied that even though he was a great priest, loyal, charitable, etc.

His rise needed to be stopped before it started because the church was not ready to be led by ....

Pope Sicola.

When my wife and I went to Italy in '05, we were directed to a monastery where the monks come out at noon and preform the Gregorian Chant. It was the only time I've heard Latin sung. I throughly enjoyed the experience. And I'm not even catholic.

It sounds delightful, and an experience that would most likely touch the heart of anyone with a heart, regardless of their faith.

Used it for the music before my wedding as people were being seated.

What a wonderful and magnificently respectful thing to do.  Respectful to your wife, respectful to your family and friends, respectful to your Church, and respectful to God.

As a result of my various responsibilities, I have been to literally thousands of weddings of a variety of denominations ( no, I'm not a Priest or other Official of the Church) and I have been saddened by the irreverent attitude that seems to pervade so very many weddings.  I am, of course, suspicious that there is a correlation between what I have seen and the terribly high incidence of divorce these days.  Although weddings are of course a time for great joy and celebration, they can (and should) be done in a manner that also reminds all in attendance of the serious nature of the matters at hand and Whose Name is invoked at this Holy occasion.

Thanks so much for choosing Sacred music for your most important day.

am going to end up loving this pope just as much as the last one. Benedict, you go, dude! Anybody who wants a comeback for Gregorian chants has got God's hand on him.

Agreed on all counts.  We are all, regardless of our respective faiths, truly Blessed to have this great man holding the position that he does at this particular time of history.

Thanks for posting this, l'il fuzzy stoat.

You're quite welcome; my pleasure  :-)

Please advise me if furballs become any sort of an issue here on the thread, and I'll go and get a good brushing straight away   :-)

Those things always scared me. I always picture damp, musty old monasteries with the lingering scent of frankincense in the air and a few ghostly monks walking through the hallways singing Gregorian chants.

That church fire is so sad... where is/was that?

Same thing happened to St. Joseph's Cathedral in Hartford, CT where my parents were married in 1955. The beautiful old cathedral (which I never got to see) burned to the ground in 1956. They put up an ugly 1960's architecture monstrosity in its place. Tragic...
