Saturday Shows for March 17, 2007

Below are the topics and guests announced for these programs, along with my take on the "memes" that the shows are trying to push.  With each guest's name are a series of links that I found in a web search that helped me get a handle on who they are and what their likely positions will be when they are interviewed.

The Beltway Boys (Mort Kondrake, Fred Barnes)

CNBC's Tim Russert Show (Tim Russert)

Fox News Watch (Eric Burns)

Journal Editorial Report (Paul Gigot) - FNC show page

The Weekend Talk Show Preview Thread is up

It has been posted at FreeRepublic at

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1802516/posts

It will also be cross posted (sometime soon) to my blog at

http://wizards.townhall.com/

Here's a sample of  my usual witty more sober than usual commentary...

Like last week when discussing Iraq there will be as little said about the surge as possible.  Certainly a consensus that it's working won't be allowed to emerge.  Far from it.  In fact the emphasis this week will be on the four year anniversary of the start of the war and of the "huge cost" of this "misadventure."  Watch for all of the shows to highlight all of the conventional wisdom about the "mistakes" and "lies" that are the foundation of their narrative.  With the likes of Kerry, Leahy, Murtha, Brzezinski and the rest of the "back to the sixties" crowd being trotted out you know that we are going to be treated to the tired old rhetoric of of the so called "peace" movement.

<snip>

I know that the world is an imperfect place but I am increasingly worried about the extremes on the left.  They are tottering on the edge of full blown madness (and straying beyond it in too many cases).  The things that seemingly sane people say and actually seem to believe about the world today and particularly about the President are truly frightening.  I think the "scandal du jour" mindset has taken hold to such an extent that if they don't somehow bring down Bush and Cheney that they will drive a large portion of their "base" to acts of violence and there's no telling who will be made to pay for that bit of madness.  The Dhimmicrats and the DBM have been promising "bread and circuses," with a finale of the heads of Bush and Cheney of pikes.  But all they've been delivering is the message to "let them eat cake."

I went to my surgeon today and he "opened up" the scar on the graft in my eye a "little bit."  You know that whole thing about a "beam in your eye?"  Well, I think I now fully understand the difference between a speck and a beam in my eye.  Sorry to be so late in posting, both this and the awards for last weeks Sunday thread.  Once I get this going I'll finish that up, but I probably won't be participating much the rest of today or tomorrow (famous last words).

Wishing it was a gleam rather than a beam. Pulling for you.

Maybe this will give you a moment of merriment. Neal Gabler just likened Fox to Air America in explaining why the dems bailed out of their debate.

Brit Hume...Al Franken...not even on the same planet.

I heard that. Air America itself is trying to make that comparison. They have offered to host a Republican debate.

These people are hate filled lunatics.

Thanks, again, for the heads up. Not sure how much I'll be on tomorrow or today. Darn it, having to work. Rats.

The one item I would like to mention is this. All the questions about terrorism and supporting the troops are scripted by GOP candidates.

I want to know this. WILL the candidate enforce the laws on the books now? WILL he prosecute Democrat wrongdoing? WILL he resolve the Jefferson of LA debacle? WILL he hold Democrats, as well as Republicans for that matter, accountable for their actions and responsible for what they do? I have not commented on Gonzalez as Attorney General but the performance of that whole department sucks.

Frankly, I'm sick and tired of the left pulling stunts and NEVER having to pay a price for their duplicity. I don't care if Chuck Schumer screams bloody murder, I would love to see a non-partisan investigation into what he knows, does and supports. Then, damn-it, make it public. President Bush has the power but lacks the resolve to fight THIS war of political ideals and philosophy.

(Okay, I'll go quietly to my room now.....)

There really are two Americas.

I just wish I knew how many actually want to live in the dems socialist one. I don't know what the numbers are. They are loud though.

Agreed. Thanks for the ping, and hope that eye heals up good and quick.

I haven't read the whole wonderful amount of links you have posted....but, I have to say two things.

1. It seems the shows aren't even attempting to pretend to have any "fair and balanced" representation anymore, does it??

2. I am so sorry to hear about your eye experience today. I sure wish you weren't in such discomfort...because you are such a wonderful asset to the Sunday thread.

Okay...I will now go back and start over.

Thanks for the pre-view.

Sorry you have to work tomorrow....we will miss you.

I am sorry to say that your feelings about Pres. Bush showed up quite a bit on FR this last week. I must admit to disgust with AB and his weaniness.

Now..to be fair, Pres. Bush was out of the country last week...and it seems that is usually when the dems try to bring out their attacks.

I posted on a thread with a LOT of angry freepers that are my FRiends, that as frustrated and angry as I get about Pres. Bush's lack of fighting back, and criticising the the critics..

I think he sees his "job" as the POTUS in a way that doesn't afford himself the luxury of getting into verbal back and forths with the Dems, MSM and even his own party.

One thing that has been interesting to me this week is the various opinions from "conservatives" about whether Bush should fire AG or ask him to resign or keep him on.

There are good arguments for both sides...but, since we ALL know that Bush's real critics only REALLY want he and Cheney to be impeached, imprisoned and/or dead....I don't think it really matters in the long run politically whether AG stays or goes.

I think the Dems will use it to blast him, and call for further hearings regardless of what he does also.

IOW...NOTHING that happens for the good or for the bad will harm Pres. Bush's standing in the MSM or the left...it can't get any worse.

Now...as for his own party...I think they have already run from him and written him off...

Noteworthy among the latest is Tom Delay in his new book, and now a contributor at Politico.com, which I consider just barely right of Daily Kos...

It is a rough time for we Bush fans....

It would be a lot easier if there was a GOP candidate to get behind, to keep my emotions from affecting my interest in the 2008 race. Right now..that hasn't happened.

Sorry this is so long, MID....I figure since you won't be here tomorrow...I would unload on you in one post!!!

And Happy St. Patrick's Day to you and Mrs. MID!!!

Joe DiGenova was on the WSJ show...

He said that the US Attorney scandal is ALL about politics, nothing "illegal"..which we all pretty much knew.

However, when asked, he wasn't sure that Alberto Gonzalez or Paul McNulty will be "effective" anymore, because they won't have the "confidence" a POTUS needs in an AG.

The woman on the panel was very harsh...using the word incompetence a few times regarding AG...

DiGenova DID say that what is going to happen now is that the DEMS will look into EVERY US attorney's cases, and will investigate if there is any evidence of impropriety on the White House's part in any of their cases.

IOW..there will be subpoenas and hearings FOREVER..just due to Al Gonzalez' "clumsy" handling of this matter...instead of just telling the the Dems and MSM to stuff it.

Also, it was mentioned that Harriet Miers actually had the "best" suggestion...she wanted all of the US Attorneys to be sent letters requesting their resignations...and then the Justice Dept would go through the letters to see which ones they would "accept" instead of singling out just these few...

Who knows....like I posted to MID...I don't know that any of the above matters...BDS doesn't need a reason.
